It was a nice story in some ways. They go through problems, get back together, everybody's friends bond and there's an HEA. For me, it just felt too fast, too abrupt and ended up seeming rather superficial. First Fitch, always been straight, has some kind of epiphany just seeing Ansel up on a stage. Ansel immediately becomes mesmerized by Fitch. It just didn't seem authentic. I don't believe in GFY, but that's how it ends up presented. A couple of dates, some sex and Fitch is wanting to change his life for Ansel. I'm not sure how Ansel even had friends. I understand he had a horrible childhood but he let it make him a pretty s***ty person. He's utterly self-absorbed and self-pitying. Then he suddenly sees the error of his ways and in a couple of weeks, changes his whole personality. They took a few weeks to say I love you but it still felt like instalove.
I know it's a series, but some things were left hanging, like what was going on with the club owner and Fitch getting jealous about Ansel's dancing job. Mostly though, I just couldn't connect with these characters. The other guys, weird names aside, had very vague characterization, and didn't make me understand how they were family. We were told things but only really saw them all pissed off with Ansel over the course of the book. Fitch's supposed best friend Rob, was just a name and a couple phone calls. Just not enough substance for me at all with any character or the relationship.

4 Angel, Stars!
When this book first came up in my feeds I got really excited. Some femme men who are fierce and who are in a dancing group called, Sassy Boyz... Um, yes please!
Ansel Becke had a pretty horrible childhood. He was raised by a cold hearted father and an abusive mother. I don't see how no one reported his mother when he spent so much time in the hospital from the abuse she inflicted on him. On his 17th birthday his parents didn't acknowledge him or that it was his birthday. He felt completely alone. He couldn't do it anymore so he packed some stuff and left. Unfortunately he also had to leave his younger brother behind, severing that relationship. Surviving the streets toughened his skin and he met some people along the way that became family. Three of them being the members of his Sassy Boyz dance group.
Ansel has a lot of insecurities and uses his bitch-a-tude to keep people out. When things get too hard or too real he finds his answer in a bottle. He drinks to numb the pain and to chase the thoughts away. But the alcohol becomes a problem and starts affecting his friendships, his professional life, and his emotional stability. His life is falling apart around him once again and he doesn't know how to handle it and sure doesn't want to ask for help. Especially not from the man who he stole a kiss from when temptation became too strong to deny himself just a taste. But the man is relentless in his pursue and is doing all he can to knock down all of Ansel's defenses. All Ansel has to do is give in and fall.
Fitch tags along with his sister on her 21st birthday as the designated driver. What he didn't expect to be tagging along to was a gay club. Of course he has no real issues with the gay part since his sister is gay and has a great girlfriend. But it doesn't mean he doesn't feel uncomfortable with the stares and the few wandering hands that falls upon him. But he wants his baby sister to have a great time so he sticks it out. He accepts he has condemned himself to this torture. But then a new kind of torture begins when the dancing group called Sassy Boyz take stage. A certain blonde beauty has stolen all his attention. He can't help but think that he's never seen such a beautiful woman. He's turned on. Then the dancers undress and are left in only their very sexy underlings. And that is when Fitch realizes that the dancer who just turned him on faster than anybody ever has is not a woman at all. That the dancers are all men. You can understand how shocked this straight boy is that not only are these dancers men, but that he still has quite the boner for the blonde he can't stop watching. Then to make things even more confusing and entertaining for us and his sister, this lovely blonde man is paid to give are very stiff (in every way) Fitch a lap dance he will never forget. Especially when that man takes it a bit father by giving Fitch a scorching hot kiss.
That kiss opens all kinds of floodgates for Fitch. All he can think about is Ansel and how he can get this man to give him a chance. It's not all roses for Fitch. He struggles with his new found attraction. But what I loved about him is that he doesn't shy away from it. No, this man does research. Boy did I enjoy his research. LOL
Things aren't smooth and both men fight through some tough family issues. There were plenty of ups that matched the downs. But through it all we got a very compelling story starring two men who had such great chemistry and a sweetness that I couldn't help but be glued to the pages. Loved them together and can't wait to see how they're doing in the future books.
Happy reading dolls! xx

I love a character like Ansel; he is flamboyant, sparkly and, as the title says, fierce and fabulous!
Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2016Verified Purchase
Fitch first meets Ansel when he attends his sister's 21st birthday party. Ansel is a performer in the bar they are partying in. Fitch is inexplicably drawn to Ansel and after he experiences a lap dance, he is even more enamored with the willowy, flashy blonde man. Confusion ensues, though, because Fitch has never before felt drawn to men. Not to ANY man. (He later tries to explain this relationship to his parents and he says multiple times, "It's hard to explain." I think it would be hard to explain, but I believe that this could happen, this intense draw.)
Ansel has had a very tough life growing up. While Fitch has had supportive, loving parents, he can understand and empathize with Ansel's tough life. At first Fitch wants to protect Ansel but he realizes that Ansel is not a damsel in distress and he doesn't need a protector. What he needs is to learn that he is worthy of love and he is capable of breaking free of the pain from his past. There is a LOT for Ansel to overcome but as he started down that road, I was cheering for him!
The drama in this story comes from Ansel's inability to cope with the pain and frustration from his past. I much prefer that sort of drama over the 'closeted against your wishes' drama or the 'I can't tell you my real feelings' drama. As he learns to deal, the relationship improves which seems very authentic to me.
The other Sassy Boyz are going to have their own stories, and I am already looking forward to the next one. There are mysteries behind all of the boys in Ansel's 'self-made family' and I want them all to have their HEA.

Could be the start of a great new series.....

Did this story remind anyone else of Billy Bellew and Shaz in Knight of Ocean Avenue?? You know...straight guy, works in construction, can't seem to have a lasting relationship with a woman, does a lot for his parents?? Fitch seemed to be a carbon copy of Billy, and Ansel was so much like Shaz...a flamboyant Princess, it was spooky. 4 stars.
I really liked Fitch and Ansel...or should I say Grumpy Bear and Angel, but felt that a lot more could have been said about their backgrounds...they were pretty much glossed over, especially Ansel's. Hope more will be said about the place where all the Sassy Boyz met in the subsequent stories, but an encouraging start to the series.

Not for me.

Not as keen on this as others seem to be. For one I'm not too keen on the GFY trope. Fitch had never been attracted to a bloke before, then suddenly there's Ansel, and bam, instant lust (really? I wasn't convinced). I also found Ansel a bit of a whiner (I accept that his childhood was difficult, but he never learned from his mistakes and allowed it to define him throughout the book, he didn't develop as a character), also, his parents were over the top baddies. I was tempted to hiss every time they came onto the page and certainly did roll my eyes at some of their antics. Throughout the book Ansel let his friends and Fitch down. Fitch was constantly fighting for the relationship, even when Ansel considered cheating on him, after they'd agreed to be exclusive. Personally, I'd have shown him the door. So I found Ansel annoying and Fitch somewhat of a doormat. Obviously, I'm in the minority here, but not for me.

I enjoyed the story of ansel and Fitch, and look forward to the others in this series. This book is about a group of friends that have come together and with there own problems and have formed their own family with each other. Ansel has run from home as his parents were abusive and he has to deal with this. Fitch meets ansel at a gay bar when he takes his sister for her 21st Birthday, he is straight but feels attraction to ansel who he thinks is a girl at first but soon realises ansel a boy. This was a lovely story of there budding relationship and to overcome past problems. Enjoyed this book.

Ok. I am fighting with myself on this one. For a reader there are a load of problems. For once in my life I would say punctuation is a bit shoddy. But OK. But then again it lightly covers topics I don't even pretend to understand. But I am trying to.
If this were you and me dancing Sassy. And I loved it...why....

Really great start to a new series

My first time reading this author and I have to say I am impressed. Very realistic storyline with great characters and a great plot, you really feel for the characters from straight sturdy and dependable Fitch to high strung damaged Ansel they make an interesting pair. Lots of ups and downs with alcohol addiction and graphic sex scenes so be warned. Recommended
