This is the heartbreaking and emotionally intense story of 18 year old Jordi Hemphill who moves away from her oppressive small town to Los Angeles to pursue her music career. After turning 18 and finally realizing her mother will never accept her dreams and Eddie, the boy she's been in love with her whole life wants her for nothing more than sex, she strikes out on her own to make her dreams happen. Living in L.A. is tough for anyone just starting out, but when you look like Jordi it's even more difficult. Jordi is a big girl, weighing in at 260 lbs, she doesn't fit the typical "superstar" role the music industry is looking for. Being turned down for several auditions has caused her to become depressed and she ultimately gains more weight when she turns to food for comfort. It's not until her lovable gay roommate finds an open casting call for a new reality show that's right up her alley, does her luck turn around.

Jordi makes friends with several of the shows contestants including the very sexy and charming Jace Riga. A wounded war veteran with an amazing voice and an even bigger heart. As they grow closer the longer they stay on the show Jordi starts to fall for him, until her mother and Eddie show up contacted by the studio to show support for her. Jordi is torn between her growing attraction for Jace and her lifelong love for Eddie. As the weeks go by in the competition Eddie becomes more and more volatile and Jordi learns just how wrong she was about him all these years. Fighting to live her dreams while surviving the oppression that Eddie brings into her life on top of her budding feelings for Jace and her mother's control she faces difficult choices that could derail all her hard work.

I have a love/hate thing going on with this novel..Jordi had me liking her in the beginning but after letting her mom & so called fiance Eddie control everything she did started getting annoying. She knew he was just using her for sex and fame while verbally abusing her yet she kept him
around. Jace was a wonderful guy to put up with everything she put him through and he was the only reason I gave this story 3 stars.

Ok, 1st of all I'm going to put this out there that I picked this book up while it was free. When I finally got around to reading it and saw that the main female character was just out of high school, I almost (ALMOST) stopped reading. The reason why is I'm really, REALLY not a fan of YA or NA books. I'm a grown woman who wants to read romance for women MY age. But after a couple of chapters were read I actually fell in love with the story. I'm a plus sized woman and know when I was a teen it was horrible in school. Jordi is my new heroine and Jace is the man of my teenage dreams.

As a writer myself, I've begun to notice editing issues in books that I read. Sure there were some minor blunders but I don't feel it detracted from the story. I've read other reviews about Jordi's insecurities and how they were overplayed. Ms. Voight, I hope you don't listen to them. Jordi was written the way she talked to YOU. Not to any nay sayers! Bravo to you!

556 Book Chicks instantly fall in love...
I totally loved this book from the start. I think after the first chapter I was totally engrossed in Fierce and everything it had to offer. No second guessing it - I was all in...

What did I love...every darn thing! But I especially loved that Jordi was far from perfect. Not blonde, not blue eyed, not a size 4, not dropped dead gorgeous...Jordi was in a battle with her weight every day since she was 6 years old. As a woman I can totally relate to Jordi! It made her real and who the hell doesn't love real? #FanGirl #TeamJordi #JordiRocks! You get the point I'm sure! LOL!

The Characters...are written so freaking well in this book. You will love them all, well some of them you will hate! You could actually visualize the characters - that's how well they were written. I don't know the last time I read a book where I loved so many of the characters. I have to say besides Jordi - Corey and Jace were two of my absolute favorites. And even though I hated Eddie and Jordi's mom, I have to give Ginger Voight kudos for writing their selfish behinds so well. Anytime you get a hand clap for writing a hated main character so well - you know you have written one heck of a book!

One of My Favorite Moments...was when Jordi sang the National Anthem at her live audition for the Fierce television show. She was inspired by Jace's story and she just let them have it. This scene was so powerful you could feel it and see her singing...'There was no one else on stage I had to worry about overshadowing with my big, booming voice; this was truly my first time to really shine. I blasted down the rafters in ways that would have made my mother scowl with disdain all the way from Iowa.

That was intense. The one thing I really enjoy about the authors books are her female leads aren't the supermodel type like Adam Levine likes (btw his marriage devastated me :)) they are normal everyday women, big boned women. They are flawed and not perfect. They aren't a size 2 or 4 and I really like that. Makes it so much more real.

Now this story was even more enjoyable because we get to see more if Vanni. ( the hot rocker from the other story)
The plot went a lot like American idol but it was a assortment of people. They were not all beautiful or perfect. They were different. They stood out. Made a statement.mi really enjoyed that. They were judged on their talent not appearance.

Now let's get started on Eddie. OMG!! I despise him. He is weak, sick and twisted. He makes me grind my teeth and want to reach in the book and just junk punch him over and over, he is so pathetic and he makes my skin crawl. Jordi's mom is a real piece of work too. She shouldn't even be allowed to be a mother, she is the poorest excuse for one I have ever witnessed.

Now Jace. Oh mercy. He has me so happy, excited and swooning. He fell in love with jordi for her not her outward appearance and even so he knows she is beautiful and makes sure she knows it. He is a definite hero.

Now onto the next book to see what other scams stupid Eddie can conjure up and hope that jordi is fierce enough to stand up to him.
