The fifty works cover a range of abilities from beginners to intermediate players. I find that some of the technically easier pieces are ideal to work on things like tone and intonation. There is also a range of styles from Baroque up to some fairly recent works. A couple of hymns are thrown in for good measure.
The music is fairly free of markings. There are some bowings indicated, but for the most part you’re on your own for bowing, dynamics, fingerings, etc. This could be good or bad. On one hand, you’ve got a lot on freedom to interpret and perform as you (or perhaps your teacher) sees fit; on the other hand, such freedom could lead astray. One thing it does have is chords, so someone can fairly easily provide a simple accomplishment on a guitar, keyboard, or other chordal instrument.
All in all, a nice book that can provide UCB enjoyment as well as learning.
