About the Author
Brent H. Ives has advised boards and board members for more than thirty years. He developed BHI Management Consulting in 1997 to help nonprofit organizations, public agencies, businesses, and other boards improve management and organization. Before that, he served for twenty-five years as a technical manager and as an organizational consultant. Through his business, Brent has helped hundreds of board and council members. He teaches governance classes and speaks to various groups on strategic planning and policy making. He consults with and assists public agencies on a weekly basis. Brent was a city councilman for twenty-three years and served as the mayor of Tracy, California (pop. 85000), for eight years. He is also the Chair and commissioner of the Altamont Commuter Express (ACE Train) Joint Powers Authority and a Chair/director of the San Joaquin County Council of Governments. Brent has served on boards for over ten thousand hours.
