In ‘Fight or Flight’ we meet Ava Breevort. Ava is trying to get away from her old hometown as fast as she cans after burying her childhood friend. Unfortunately a cloud of volcanic ash in Europe has made problems for all flights and Ava’s flight is delayed. This wouldn’t be the worst thing ever, but Ava is forced to sit next to a very rude Scotsman Caleb Scott. Ava and Caleb bump heads in everything. But there is a physical attraction between the two of them they both can’t deny. And when fate seems to force them together they find themselves in a passionate affair.. but it’s sex only. They still can’t stand each other.. Obviously!
From the moment I started reading ‘Fight and Flight’ I was hooked. I never have a lot problems with ‘seeing’ the book in my mind while reading, but with this one it was like I was watching a movie from the very start. I just was hooked to these pages and didn’t want to stop reading. (Baby girls nap time definitely came in handy!) Not only was this book romantic, sexy and filled with great characters I also found myself smiling a lot. There was definitely humor but also some heartbreak. Yep, this book was an emotional rollercoaster!
The two main characters Ava and Caleb were really fun to get to know. They both have had their share of grieve over the years and they both have lost faith in love. And I just loved the way these characters where with each other. Especially in the beginning they didn’t like each other at all and they both make assumptions based on each other’s looks. Assumptions you can imagine having yourself too. The chemistry between Ava and Caleb just flew from the pages and I just couldn’t get enough of them. This book definitely gave me all the feels and not only because of the romance, but because this book just had it all.
Not only the two main characters where great, the other characters in the book were also very fun to read about and it makes me hope for new books about them. Ava’s best friend Harper definitely deserves her own book. And Caleb’s brother Jamie.. Well, let me tell you I have their story all figured out in my head!! LOL.
If you didn’t already love Samantha Young, ‘Fight and Flight’ will definitely make you love her. I’m already looking for my next Samantha Young read!
When they both land in Boston, Ava and Caleb went their separate ways but somehow fate brought them back together. They decide to have a casual relationship since Caleb is only in town on business for a couple of weeks but things never work out as you have plan. The two of them get to know each other better and find out about some of each other's past. But both of them are scare of relationships and commitment and seem to agree that they don't want these things.
When Caleb is promoted and moves from Scotland to Boston, he and Ava spend quite a lot of time together and what they really have is a relationship! When they realize what has happened, they are not sure what to do. They each must deal with their tragic past and hopefully get through it and build on their own relationship!
Great story with humor, sarcasm, painful pasts and a sexy Scot!

The opening scene is brilliant in a awful sort of way and whilst you instantly fall in love with Ava the same can’t be said about Caleb... who is this obnoxious extremely rude nasty man... there is something about Caleb that makes you want to know more and so the story begins and boy is it good.!
Samantha Young never ever disappoints and this latest read is no exception...everything that is Ava and Caleb are bought to life as a relationship of sorts begins to develop. With rules and understanding on both parts it starts off on a convenient note but Ava still struggles with Caleb’s rudeness and try’s very hard to right that, it doesn’t help when she realises he behaves this way when he’s with her and so this just confuses her more because by now she has witnessed a more polite and gentlemanly side to him at various times...just not so much with her.
As this story continues to build so does the intrigue surrounding both Ava and Caleb. We have been teased with bits and pieces of both their pasts but it’s not quite enough however you are very aware of the sadness that comes with Ava and her previous friendships with Gemma and her Ex Nick and you are eager to know everything add to that her parents that weren’t really parents and like I said it’s quite sad.
Caleb continues to confuse us, add to that feelings are developing especially for Ava, what started out as a love-hate relationship is turning into something else but time is running out because Caleb is heading back to Glasgow and with his rather dismissive and abrupt departure...sadness clouds this storyline.
All you can do is hang on every word of this story as you continue to be captured by everything that is Ava and Caleb.... does Ava move on of course she can’t but is Caleb even coming back anytime soon?
Honestly this story is so compulsive and when some shocking information is revealed on Caleb’s part... it’s even more so.
All Ava wanted was honesty.
Within an instant their relationship becomes anything but and Caleb reverts back to the Caleb we despised.
It’s an emotional and frustrating time and I wanted Caleb to suffer so much more because the way he spoke and treated Ava was truly awful but Ava was in love... was Caleb?
Read it and find out.!
The pair decide that because of their mutual dislike for each other that falling into bed together is of no risk to their hearts, so the pair throw caution to the wind and have a little fun. When Caleb finds out he’s sticking around for longer than expected it raises the question on wether to stop their relationship where it is as just a bit of fun, or continue to see each other but risk the chance that they could most definitely fall in love.
I love these characters, each one has a complicated back story that makes them who they are. I really felt sorry for Ava and everything that she went through, and you really can’t blame her for falling for the sexy Scotsman. I would absolutely recommend this book and I don’t think it will be long before it’s time for another read.
Caleb's view of Ava isn't much better. As far as he is concerned, she is a very vain, high maintenance stuck up woman. She is also stunningly beautiful with an amazing figure.
The attraction and dislike are in even measures. I found it hilarious that Ava thought of Caleb as Bastard Scott 😂
After having being diverted on their journey to Boston, they both end up staying overnight at the airport waiting for connecting flights the next morning. Ava decides that she is going to have a nice relaxing night with a meal in the hotel restaurant. A group of businessmen decide that she obviously needs company and after a couple of them unsuccessfully try it on with Ava, Caleb decides to come to her rescue by sitting at her table. His presence is enough to put them off, and the pair start talking. The attraction between them is ever present.
The pair end up spending some time together getting on better than they thought they would, before going their separate ways. Fate on the other hand has a different idea as they keep crossing paths.
Some really good humour in this story, along with some heartwrenching backgrounds to all the characters. I would love to hear Jamie's story, perhaps him and Harper getting together? Great standalone book.
