It is refreshing and I'm grateful to hear a woman express exactly the way I feel about issues relating to my body. Namely, it is no one's business to discuss it, let alone try to legislate it. Her observations of our experiences and the ways girls are spoken to, gender expectations, and lack of opportunities presented us based on archaic societal norms are so eye opening. While I've experienced so many of the things she describes, at 49, I'm just now able to take in what she has expressed and recognize these experiences for what they really were.
I consider myself an active Feminist, but even such a simple concept as the playbook for Disney princess movies escaped me until it was set out in front of me and now I wonder how Disney could ever continue on their every 7 years release of these old tropes that prop up a sexist ideology that many parents in this age cannot get behind.
I have shared my review of this book on all social media and have suggested over and over to every woman I meet that every woman alive could benefit from reading this book. I hope you choose it, and can hear your own thoughts in Clementines words. Thank you, Clementine This one is a gem. I just wish it was available on Kindle!
‘Embrace your anger. Don’t be pretty little flowers decorating the hallways of life. Women have spent too long burying our anger deep beneath those roots in the hope that we could stop it from affecting our blooms, but all it’s resulted in is failure to thrive.
If you are a woman living in this world and you’re not angry, you’re not paying enough attention. Not to your own life, not to the lives of other women and not to the lives of the women who’ll come after you.
Be angry. Be rageful. Be loud. Be unrepentant. Be assertive. Be aggressive. Be the kind of she-beast that trains her fire-filled eyes on the male gaze and burns it down. Be everything that women are always told not to be, and commit to giving zeros f***s about who may or may not have a problem with that.
It is okay to be angry. It is f***ing okay.’
