The decision and reasons behind the move--when weighing in the costs of what this sacrifice meant--didn't settle well with me and left me missing a bit of the independent, fighting personality from Kat in book one. Still, the world development was interesting and drew in. There's a nice toss in of new characters with colorful personalities, adding a wide possibility of where Kat's adventures might go from here.
Unlike the first book, the general pace pops into a slower gear. More time is spent on inner thoughts as well as relationship issues, giving the characters much more depth. The tension and danger, however, takes a back seat. Each of the townspeople carries secrets and hidden agendas, making it hard to distinguish where the danger might come from. This background mystery gives a nice atmosphere to the growing relationship problems between Kat and her hero.
The ending battle rushes through relatively fast and could have used more build up and time. But all in all, it's a solid read--although I would have really like to see a little bit more action-- and leaves the question as to what awaits Kat next.
I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
Kat is now hiding together with others in a compound for immortals in another dimension from Liliana, Iris’s sister, who desires their lives and make Kat suffer in the cruelest way she could come up with. Feeling safe, they gather the courage to enjoy the life a bit more, but out of a sudden everything crumbles and weird things start to happen. Kat even discovers another gift – strange dreams. The whole world is shaken and turned upside down, which makes not only Kat acting unreasonably.
The center of this book is set onto the turmoil surrounding the relationships. On one side, the love bond between Kat and Gabe improved, but on the other side, Kat acted sometimes really silly towards him and hurt him with her prejudices, not stopping for a while and thinking a bit about the possibility the truth may be different. But she developed nicely comparing to book one, becoming a character one could actually remember.
There were some unexpected twists and the plot development accelerated over time, but I would welcome a bit more action from the side of the evil. Yes, her strategy is taking some time and the revenge comes slowly, but I was just expecting something would happen and it didn’t. Nevertheless, there was plenty to enjoy and I found this book better than the previous installment. It had lots of drama and tension included, focus turned on the emotional side and in-depth insight into the characters, which I actually liked.
After their near-to-death experience at Midland Pines Land, they decided to go and to live in the hybrid camp - where no one of their kind will be able to leave – after they’ve found out that the sister of Iris named Liliana are after them for revenge. Adjusting to their new lives, Kat will have lots of problems - there’s a girl flirting with her boyfriend, her best friend's boyfriend and her friend also named Dawson is being weird and her prophetic dreams are coming back again.
Memories can be erased, but not feelings. Heartbreak, joy, love, sorrow; those take root and become a part of who you are. - S. J. Pierce, Fight for Me
This book really entertained me! I loved it but it leaves me an hanging moment because the story was cut and the best part will be continued on book three.
I liked how the author put an amazing twist and turn in this book. The ending really leaves me hanging but I can’t deny that the twist is very unexpected. I really want to tell you something about it but it’ll only spoil you so I won’t do it anymore. Just read this book for you to know what I’m saying.
Hiding from your past never made it go away. Sometimes you had to face it or it would creep up on you when least expected it. - S. J. Pierce, Fight for Me
The characters are also great though some of them don’t have any exposure here anymore unlike on the first book. I would loved it if they will have some scenes just for me to have any idea what’s going on them.
The story was told from Kat’s voice.
I liked Kat though sometimes I’m irritated because of her actions. Then, all she ever think about is her relationship with Gabe. It’s always love, love, love...
And, her boyfriend’s boss is the flirty-type-of-girl you wouldn’t like to be around your boyfriend. If I were Kat, I will already talk to her to clear everything instead of doubting Gabe doing something behind her.
Her friend Dawson is really a jerk too! I find him irritating but it’s him who will make you curious and shock you as read this book.
Gabe is really sweet! I loved him but he is just too innocent. He is too good to be true.
“Whether it’s something we’re aware of or not, when our trust and sense of safety in this world has been taken away from us, we start to question everything and everyone.” - S. J. Pierce, Fight for Me
I can’t say much about the story because just like what I’ve said, it was cut. In short, the ending had been a cliffhanger. But! Because of it, I’m eager to have the next book. Why? Because (I think), the best story will be revealed there. This book is just like a starting part of the story and the climax and all of the best scenes will be put together in the next book.
The overall story was great and enjoyable though most of the part I was kind of stressed because of Kat and the other characters. I loved the world building even if it’s not as awesome as the world building of the other books I’d read.
This is recommended to everyone who loves reading a young adult paranormal romance. I’m sure you will like this.
