Being a local crit partner in the past for M. S. Kaye, I've had the opportunity to read bits and pieces of several other works of hers, though never a romance. I knew her writing, and I knew how good it was, even before she acquired her publication deal. (Which I'm so happy for her, as well as proud!)

Normally, when I think of Romance, I automatically think Harlequin-type (or even that fad that has half a hundred hues of one non-nondescript color) books. Those are really not my thing. This is *NOT* your Harlequin Romance. And I'm thankful.

What I really liked about this book, the thing that drew me in, was the story itself. Celisse is not your "damsel in distress," a woman who "needs" a man to complete her. She is her own person by her own right. A strong woman who can take care of herself. This is definitely my ideal "princess." The story is not strictly about the attraction, or the sex. No, there is meat (no pun intended) to this story. Engaging, and unique characters and story make for a great read for me.

The romantic scenes were tantalizing and real. The motives of both Celisse and Cullen brought frustration into the mix. And when they finally caved in, M. S. Kaye describes their interactions that left my heart racing. I could easily see where this may very well leave someone panting, but I'm a hard sell with that so don't gauge the romance by what I say. I like the fact that these scenes are not overly done. This isn't a porn with words. But most of all, it isn't mush. The sex doesn't change Celisse into a blubbering love-struck girly girl. She maintains her confidence but learns to compliment her partner. THE BEST MESSAGE!

Right from the start, the story drew me in, getting to know all the players. The mystery M. S.

M. S. Kaye builds strong characters and a strong story. The images Kaye creates stay in the mind long after reading them. The book is about illegal fighting and betting and how the two protagonists are caught in the system. There is a strong love story between the two but the man doesn't want the woman fighter to be connected to him for fear of her safety. The author has a deep understanding of martial arts. There is more violence and language than I prefer. Nevertheless, the story stands strong.

I love my romance with mystery. And when the mystery is accompanied by a heroine who can take care of herself and the man in her life it is all the more rewarding. The connection between the main couple was what really pulled me in. Each was so well developed and I love when I can feel a connection with the people I am reading about. I loved that Celisse's personality never changed as so often happens when a strong female lead has sex or has strong emotional feelings. Cullen is one fabulous leading man and the connection between these two is amazing. This was a fast-paced, skillfully written story with some fantastic twists and surprises. I cannot wait to read the next in the series as I believe it will be just as fascinating. This is my first story by this author but I know it will not be my last.

Very interesting plot, the author expertise in martial arts shows in the action scenes. But the plot keep you glued to the book, with enough twists to keep you guesing. Looking forward to more adventures of the Fight Princess.

This is a really unusual review, because I read this manuscript before it was a book. It was submitted to the publisher for whom I edit under another title--one that didn't appeal to me. I made a huge mistake not reading it immediately, and Ms. Kaye signed with another publisher while I dithered. I am still kicking myself for letting this gem escape. Fortunately, my publisher understood. I also edit the Marketing for Romance Writers Newsletter and this manuscript came in during "Newsletter week." That deadline took precedence over the "slush" pile.

I got about half-way through Fight Princess when I asked my publisher to contact Ms. Kaye and offer her a contract. The characters were engaging, already fully fleshed out, and the plot had my attention. I could see one or two newbie issues, but they weren't major. In fact, this raw manuscript was cleaner than many supposedly-edited books I've read of late. Normally, when a publisher tells an editor a book has been signed elsewhere, we put it down and go on to the next project. After all, these books come to us in raw manuscript form and we have to read them on our laptops. No Kindle conversions here. I could not put this one down. I had to know how things turned out for Celisse and Cullen. I had to know who did it. Of course, I had a theory about who the real culprit was. I always do and I'm usually right, but this time I was completely wrong! This newbie author totally fooled me!

I haven't even seen the edited version, which has finally come out. I highly recommend you grab it. Don't dither like I did.

This was the first book I've read by M.S Kaye but it won't be the last. I LOVED Fight Princess. Celisse and Cullen were both well-developed likeable characters who had a lot in common and complimented each other well. Celisse, a former lawyer, comes from a rich family, but she gave that life up and is one of the best fighters in an underground ring. You've got to love a strong girl who has some moves! Cullen is a caring ex-fighter who is accused of murder. Celisse gets involved in the case bringing the two of them together...

The murder mystery was well written with lots of twists and turns. The underbelly of the city was well research and vividly came alive with description and fresh writing. Even the villain Ogden was a well-developed and sympathetic character. There aren't many books I've read where I come to feel for the bad guy. I am eagerly awaiting book two in the Full Contact series. There is more to the story and I can't wait to see what happens next.
