I can honestly say I went into this purchase with the intent of replacing parts inside the stick. I build sticks on the side and for fun, so I have a ton of extra parts which I knew I wanted to throw inside this little guy. Just be prepared to put in some work if you want to swap anything out in this stick.

The stick is slightly larger than a PS4 game case which I was well aware of. What I wasn't aware of is how MadCatz decided to cut corners with this quality of this stick. I wanted to swap the top of the stick from a lolipop(The red ball on the stick) to a bat top style(common on Mortal Kombat & Killer Instinct arcade units) since this is what I am most familiar with. I also wanted to swap out the box style for an octo-gate to get a better range of control. So, I pop open the stick and the very first thing I noticed was all the buttons are soldered. They normally have connectors you simply pull out to make changing buttons a breeze. So if you want to change out the buttons make sure you are handy with a soldering iron or know someone that is.

Next, I started looking at the joystick and noticed it was made up of switches by a company ZING EAR instead of the Omron switches in all the other MadCatz sticks. The ZING EAR switches were not very responsive and are super loud. I just ended up pulling out the entire joystick and replaced it with a spare that had the Omron cherry switches.

I can't really recommend this stick for a regular player of fighting games. Pretty much the joystick and buttons all have to be replaced with real parts if you want the stick to last. If you are just getting into fighting games or don't play on a regular basis or compete in tournaments regularly then I would say it is a great stick to start out with. If you don't want to bother with replacing anything or don't have the knowledge, just spend the extra money and get a MadCatz TES stick or a HORI stick.

PROS:
-Works perfectly for PS3, PS4, & PC(I am on Win 10)
-Small size makes it easy for traveling to tournaments or just traveling in general.
-Was pretty comfortable to use even given the small size of the stick.
-Great for people wanting to start getting into fighting games.

CONS:
-Made of cheap parts
-The buttons are soldered instead of using connectors like in all the other MadCatz sticks.
-May get uncomfortable for some if not playing with the stick on a flat surface like a table.

UPDATE:
I added new Seimitsu buttons and a battop for the stick. Also included a shot inside the stick. This is after I de-soldered the old buttons and wired up a new harness to buttons I swapped out.

FightStick Alpha: Madcatz should really improve their quality standards.

I ordered the FightStick Alpha as it was the most inexpensive option in Madcatz' lineup for 2016. I was not expecting a top of the line unit by any means, however, the quality of the one I received was terrible. The FightStick itself had no visible flaws but the Madcatz brand arcade buttons were all very sticky which in itself is terrible for fighting games as the accuracy of your button inputs is critical. The most major flaw was that the R2 button (HK in Street Fighter) was completely rigid rendering it unusable. The joystick on this unit does not feel 'smooth' and there is a noticeable amount of resistance to it during use. Everything else about this FightStick works and the command buttons (start, select, PS, etc...) seem to be of good quality. I am also quite impressed with how ergonomic it feels given its smaller size even though it has a light and hollow 'plasticky' feel. What floors me personally is that 5 years ago I purchased an excellent quality Madcatz Xbox360 TE2 FightStick with Sanwa parts and awesome MVC2 artwork for the cost of $99.99. This unit is priced at $79.99, there is really no excuse for hardware that is this poor, especially in a StreetFighter V branded FightStick. I realize that I likely received a flawed unit but according to how the Madcatz FightPads have been being received and reviewed by customers (which is terrible by the way) I am certain there are others out there who have been getting the same poor quality FightSticks.

PS. Anyone out there planning to modify the Alpha like I am should be informed that it is a nightmare to work with as I have already opened it up. The internal components are jam-packed together and require soldering as there are no 'quick connects'. The pre-existing work is also sloppy and there seems to be a resin or glue spilled over many of the wires, screws, and components. So yeah, have fun! I know I will :)

Not compatible with pc natively, needs workaround

The stick feels very good to play with. I'm not very experienced with fighting sticks, but a far as I remember the old arcades, this little thing keeps buttons in their original places, maintaining the same distances and proportions as in the arcades. The stick itself is a bit interesting, because it makes a "click" when you move it, but it's no big deal (and it even helps you to know whether you've directed it correctly or not).
The one thing that makes me take out one star is the native incompatibility with the PC version of Street Fighter V. It DOES work with Street Fighter IV, however, and IS natively recognized by windows 10, there's no driver problem. The problem is with the game itself, and it's very weird that a joystick made to be used with a game is not received by this same game as compatible. What I did to make it work was download a program (JoytoKey) and REMAP the inputs. Keyboard inputs work with Street Fighter V, so I had to make the game think I was using this as a keyboard. But after I did the remapping, it works just perfectly, with no input lag at all. And feels great to play with it (although I've lost all of the three test ranked matches I made because I'm so used to the gamepad...). MadCatz has officially supported a solution like this one while they don't release a "firmware update", as they've said.
By the way, to those who wish to use this on a pc and need to remap the buttons on joytokey, the keyboard layout is:
light punch: g
medium punch: h
high punch: j
three punches: k
light kick (and confirm): b
medium kick (and cancel): n
high kick: m
three kicks: , (comma)
start: enter
You NEED to make the remapping. The PC recognizes the inputs you're making, but they are not something the GAME understands unless you're using a profile that translates it (the problem is that this stick is directinput whereas the game only recognizes xinput... go figure).
