Serge's passion and commitment to being a fighter pilot are self evident, but what really makes the book is his ability to spin some hilarious anecdotes interspersed with some very reflective and disarming honesty about his own journey. You do get a real sense of who the author is. He pulls no punches.
Even when I find something that is written down funny, it rarely causes me to physically laugh. However, there were stories in this book that had me wiping tears of laughter away whilst reading it at an airport baggage carousel. People were staring and trying to see what the hell I was reading. Highly recommended.
Funny, witty and real. Have a read, you'll love it.
From start to finish this book keeps a steady, enjoyable pace as it describes the amazing situations and crazy activities Serge has experienced. Well worth reading & highly recommended.
SENSE OF HUMOUR - CHECK
ZEST FOR LIFE - CONFIRMED
PASSION FOR FLYING - OPTIONAL
POLITICALLY CORRECT - HELL NO!
This book won't suit everyone, but if it did it wouldn't be as brutally honest or as profound a statement about the reality of flying in the RAAF. Mac has a flair for story-telling that has been finely honed over years of swapping warries (war stories) with the best of the best story tellers in the RAAF, and an honesty that's rare. At times I felt like I was reading a TOP SECRET brief and I'd have to destroy it when I'm finished - it really is that fair dinkum. Thoroughly recommended for anyone with a love of flying - not just young fighter pilot wannabes. Also recommended for spies who are interested in Australia's Defense capability. Save yourselves the political embarrassment of your phone bugs being discovered and just buy the book!
