Fighters over the Desert covers the day by day air operations over the Western Desert of North Africa from 14 June 1940 through 30 December 1942. The authors use diaries of individual pilots and unit records to tell the story of air combat of all sides. You get air combat, desert conditions, air to air kill and loses with a 72 page photo section, 12 chapters, 11 appendices all a moving story I enjoyed. The book is out of print and may be hard to find but worth looking for.

More of a day to day diary of fighter claims, and confirms, than a story. Still and interesting read.

If you ever ran the CFS3 ad-on MAW I did the entire mission series for that sim (Wulfmann) and it was this book that allowed me to recreate the air battles over the desert accurately using the actual names of the daring men who flew those missions. There is no other source of information ever done that compares to this excellent work. CS, you hit it out of the park. This book is near impossible to find and if you see a copy grab it price be daxxed it is the definitive source

It is clearly dated now but it is a fantastic reference with plenty of details about combat operations in North Africa.

Christopher Shores and Hans Ring created one of my favorite books contributing to the history of the war in North Africa during World War Two. Quite simply, if it's not in here, it probably didn't happen. Operations from every day of the conflict in the air between the Allies and the Axis (up to the end of 1942) are presented here in lucid detail. The photographs included in this book are rare and not usually seen in other books dealing with the North African air campaign. The authors underscored the true value of air power in this volume: that of reconnaissance and tactical support.
After buying this book, I understand why it's listed in almost every bibliography in books written about this campaign.
