This book opens with Rebecca, still not over Charlie, suffering a home invasion and attempted rape. Mercy calls Charlie to come over to assist, and thus the two are brought back together. The home invasion though was not random at all, but rather a very deliberate attempt to intimidate and hurt Rebecca. More info would be a spoiler, though you will likely figure it out early on.
Charlie was not a super likable guy in book 1, but we see so much more of him and the "why" in this book. He comes out a super likable hero, alpha but with such a great sense of humor, even able to have a good laugh at himself. I loved that part, and loved the couple's interaction. Kirsty Dallas does great dialog and has a real talent for creating "real" characters, real people. The fact that our hero of the story was not the lead hero in all rescues here made it even better. It's good to have friends who are better at some things than you are. I loved seeing the development of their relationship after time apart.
And we get a good view of Emily (Rebecca's sister) and Braiden, heroine and hero of the next novel, and it should be good. Be aware, all of Kirsty's books that I have read hit hard on sensitive topics (abuse, rape, traumas, etc.). Mercy, mother of Jax from the first book, runs a shelter for abused women, and is prominent in the book as well. Love trumps trauma, but there is definitely sadness in these books, addressed honestly and factually.
I’m not going to delve too deep into the plot of Fighting Back because this book should be experienced by the reader and I really don’t want to give away too many details. Fighting Back has everything you could ever want in a book: action, romance, humor, a lot of hot and steamy sexy time, characters you instantly fall in love with, and an intense story line that keeps you flipping the pages of your kindle faster than you thought possible.
Rebecca Donovan is everything I look for in a heroine. She is strong-willed, confident, feisty, independent, and beautiful – inside and out. Her free spirit and confidence is briefly shattered when she falls victim to a brutal attack. We watch her fold into herself and become a shell of who she once was until Charlie Cole enters her life (again) and helps her move forward and realize she is still that same beautiful, confident person she was before she fell victim to a horrific crime. Watching Rebecca and Charlie’s relationship grow was perfection. Seriously. I love these two together. Their chemistry was off the charts SMOKING HOT and they just fit together so perfectly. Sigh…. Charlie Cole. He might be one of my all time favorite book boyfriends. He has a perfect mix of alpha male, but not too much where he’s overbearing and yet he’s still completely sweet and caring and funny and totally swoon worthy. I can’t get enough of him. I love him! LOVE HIM!
The Mercy’s Angels series is something you do not want to miss out on. The writing is outstanding, the characters are complex, and the plots are emotional, intense and have depth. Saving Ella and Fighting Back are both 5 star MUST read books! We can’t wait to see what Kirsty has up her sleeve for Tortured Souls!
The story of Charlie and Rebecca was a beautiful one, and I honestly never thought I would like any other characters the way I liked Ella and Jax, but I loved these two!!!
What I love most about the characters in these stories are the women are strong, brave, resilient and tough ass cookies. The men are alpha male to the core, but have a protective streak a mile long and when they love their women, they LOVE their women!!
This is turning into one of my fave series and I cannot wait for Braiden and Emily's story. I think theirs is going to be the most heart breaking of the lot as she has endured the most heartache.
Great Book, Great Writing, Awesome Characters and all in all a EPIC Read!!!
If you're looking for an awesome plot, suspense and lots of romance this is it.
Can't wait for the next one.
