About the Author
Blinded and near death following a battle in Iraq, Ivan Castro fought his way back to health by training for the Marine Corps Marathon. To date he has run in over fifty, cycled across the U.S., and trekked to the South Pole, becoming the first blind American to do so. But his most remarkable achievement was winning the right to remain on active duty as a Green Beret, earning three promotions in the process. His full story is told here for the first time.
Best known for American Sniper, Jim DeFelice is the author of 15 New York Times best-sellers and a host of other books, many of them celebrating the lives of unsung American heroes.

I'm not familiar with the military memoir genre, so I can't compare Fighting Blind to any other books in the genre, but I can at least say that I was absolutely captivated by the book and enjoyed every minute of the read. I imagine that people who are already fans of this genre are going to love it.
I'm surprised they could fit everything this man has accomplished into one book. I'm thankful this quiet professional has taken the time to eloquently put it all into words..
Although doors have been closed by the nature of his injury, he continues to show that there are many doors out there to open…all you need is a vision and the will to keep moving forward out of the darkness!
A true testament to grit, commitment, and service.
Ivan Castro is a soldier's soldier, and anyone who reads this book comes away with a sense of awe and respect.
Jim DeFelice's work is riveting as always.
This is the perfect (early) Christmas present!
