I am pleased and sad at the same time to write this review. It's the end for an amazing series. First off, I can say I've grown to love this author and became friends with her. From the very first book I was hooked. With each book, they just progressively gotten better and better. I love watching authors grow, it's such a big perk for us bloggers, and I got to see that with Barb.
With Fighting Fate, we get to meet Marissa Johnson. She's the younger sister of one of the friends from the original gang, that we fell in love with.
Marissa has had a secret, well, kind of. She's be in love with her brothers best friend. The one and only Mike Harrison. MMA fighter, woman lover, Mike Harrison. She's watched he from afar for the last few years. With one night, both their feelings will be let loose, and each will no longer have to hide what they feel... Maybe.
"Can you just let fate happen? We are in this together. You and me."- Marissa
Mike has always has his eye on "Daisy" Marissa, but never made a move. But it's time, time to stop fighting fate and take a leap of faith. They may both get hurt in the process, but it's better to live and love, than not to love at all... Right!
"You realize you can't fight fate. Things always end up the way they are meant to."- Zoey
Guys, this book is amazing. We're just not following Marissa and Mike, we get peeks into the life of the originals we fell in love with from the previous books. We get to see where they are and what life has thrown them, and I can say I couldn't been happier to revisit them. This is a all encompassing love story, with its bumps and turns, heart ache and sadness. You ever wanted to scream at a author before? I did, I wanted to scream at Barb and tell her 'No, you can't. Why?!' Lol! Both these characters are fighting the inevitable. Mike, dang, I absolutely love him and his caveman ways, lol. He's such a strong, take charge, alpha male. When he has want he wants, he'll do everything in his power to keep it and fight. Marissa, her character is amazing. She's so full of life, happiness, but also a little scared to put herself out there. He's Mike F'in Harrison for goodness sakes. Wouldn't you? This book isn't all roses and sunshine. It has its heartache, and boy did my heartache. You'll see for yourself and will totally agree. Barbara gave us an amazing final book for this series. She gave us what we needed. But let me tell you, it's only the beginning for more amazingness for Barb. Oh, it is!!! I can't wait to see what this amazing author has in store for us all. Thank you for giving us readers such a great series. A series we can relate to. One that we can feel in the depth of our bones. Thank you!!! 5 STARS!!!
I loved this whole series, and Fighting Fate was a good conclusion to it.
The characters from the first two books, Finding Solace and Fearing Regret, reunite in this final installment. Marissa is the baby sister of Brian, the "kid" of their group of friends. She's a full-time college student and a nanny to Sadie and Ash's twins.
She wants more out of life. She wants what the people she surrounds herself with have - love. And there's only one person she wants it from. Her big brothers best friend.
Mike is getting very well known in the MMA circuit. He's recognized in public, travels all over the world, and can have any woman he wants. But who he wants is his best friends little sister. He's waited two years to make a move and he's tired of waiting.
When he finally makes the move, Marissa can't believe it and certainly doesn't trust that she is who he really wants. As with the first two books, there are a lot of ups and downs, angst and sweet moments. I found myself getting irritated at Marissa and her impetuousness, but had to remind myself that she's only twenty. I applauded Mike's patience with her, and his steadfast resolve to prove to her that she is everything he wants.
There are a few chapters that are difficult to read, because of the subject matter. If you have trigger issues, take warning. Those parts were not graphic, but implied, and also very well written.
Overall, I think Barb brings this series full circle with Fighting Fate, and it couldn't have ended any better. I will be sad to see these characters go, because I feel like I know them. We are introduced to a new one in the later chapters, and I'm very anxious to see where she takes him.
I absolutely love Barbara and her writing skills, she knows just how to get you hooked then she reels you in.
Barb has a great way of making you feel every emotion the character feels.
I cant believe this was the end of the series, it makes me sad to write that.
This is Marrissa's story and it's an emotional one, Full of attraction, pent up frustrations, heartbreak and loss not just physical loss but emotional too.
Marrisa has wanted Mike for years, it takes a twist of fate for marrissa to change her whole outlook on things. I guess she thinks how long can she be invisible to this guy.
You see her character grow from a shy yes girl to a woman who starts to say No!!!
I love how she developes in the book, she seems stronger, more determine.
It's not until she stops paying attention to mike he begins to take notice of her, or so she thinks.
Mike has fought his feelings for Marrissa for years, but now he's ready to have her!!! But is he too late?
Things develope in the book, and they decide to give into what they're are feeling, but in true Barbara form nothing is that simple.
There will be jealousy, lust, and heartbreak along the way.
Barbara will take your heart on a rollercoaster ride with this one, hold on tight.
I love that we get to see all the old characters from the earlier books it makes me want to go and read their stories again.
Thanks Barb for another fantastic opportunity to read your amazing work.
