Warning: This book is about two flawed people. It is not about perfect people and perfect romance. It is heartbreaking, sad, and ultimately beautiful with it's imperfections.

I knew after reading Blake’s book and hearing that Rex was the next story in this series that Ms. Salsbury was going to BREAK. MY. HEART. Even before his book begins, when he is secondary character in Jonah’s and Blake’s stories, Rex is the type that you know there is something simmering under the surface and it’s just waiting to burst out.

I adored his story. After building the tension, Ms. Salsbury ripped the heart out of my chest at 57% and then ever so gently replaced it at 83%. This story had betrayal, untold horrors, pain, and self-loathing in spades, but the underlying story of pure, sweet, innocent love that spanned years, that survived on memories of something good in the midst of something evil, was ever present.

If you haven’t read the first two books in the series, Fighting for Flight about Jonah and Raven, and Fighting to Forgive about Blake and Layla, you really should before reading this book. While it is a standalone with a HEA, the whole story is epic and should be enjoyed in order so you can see the character development over the whole series instead of just one book. There were surprises in this story that I didn’t see coming, based on events that happened in the first book.
These books are definitely on my keeper shelf, to be reread, and reread, and reread.

I really liked the beginning. Mac/Gia was tough. She was someone I could really like. She was able to take a hit to the face without blinking. She loved roller coasters, and heights were not a problem. She seemed Kick-but with biker boots, leather and a motorcycle.

She tracked down her foster brother Rex. She intended to give him the information about his past. Rex couldn't remember much about it, but he had issues. He had trouble with sex. He was often mad at the world and liked pain. He has all of these issues and yet he has made friends and a life for himself.

Mac comes into his life, and they fall in love. So she doesn't share the past with him.

**** Spoiler Alert

Rex is mad. That makes sense. He throws her out of his apartment, and wants nothing to do with her. That makes sense because all of his memories come back.

Now what doesn't make sense to me - Mac goes into a depression. She hooks up with a bad boy biker - who isn't even attractive. She ends up addicted to drugs. So my strong kick-but lead lady becomes a mess. It just doesn't make sense.

We learn about Mac's background finally.... Then she ends up not needing drugs. Mmmmmmm... I've never been on drugs, but from everything I've seen on TV, read, etc. You don't just stop taking drugs because you don't want them anymore.

So this book didn't work for me. It was a page turner that I did cry about. So I was caught up in it at times. But logically - from someone who likes books about aliens, zombies, vampires, fairies... - logically it just didn't work for me.

It is an 18+ book.

It must have been me but I just couldnt get into the book. I had the same issue with the first book in this series. However, I loved the second book. I just couldnt connect with Mac. She drove me crazy and sometimes a little concerned with her actions. I dont know...i was kind of creeped out about the way she handled everything in her life. I thought he was a codependant stalker but Rex found her strong and a surviver. Rex was wonderful and he spent his life trying to figure out what was wrong with him and did everything he knew to make himself better. Because of my dislike for Mac I never was able to understand the relationship between them two.

It’s not cheating if they live in different books…right? Well, JB Salisbury has made me a cheater for sure. I have been “Blake’s Mouse” for a while now and I wouldn’t have thought that there was room for me to obsess about any other hot fictional man… but Rex is certainly obsession-worthy. He’s broken, he’s tough. He’s incredibly sexy. And he almost has a heartbreaking soft side too. I mean what more could one want in a book boyfriend.

Once again Salsbury’s writing style swallowed me up into her book. The pain and suffering that Rex and Mac both endure is painful to read, but she tells their story with unflinching truth. Their eventual triumph is raw and emotional and she doesn’t sugarcoat the fact that they will forever be marked by the things they go through. Still, the story is inspiring, the sex is sizzling and the romance is all that one would expect.

An added bonus to me is the interconnection of the other characters in this Fighting Series. I love series for that very reason; because the binding of friends becomes so much more a part of the journey. I won’t give away spoilers, but I think you’ll be as surprised as I was about the way the previous characters get involved in this book.

Once again, BRAVO to JB Salsbury for providing a fabulous book that I have to admit I’ll probably read again down the road… once I’ve fully recovered from the first read that is.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
