Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Ash and Flint's story. I'll keep this short because I don't want to ruin it... They meet through Quarry (the H's brother) introducing them, and the fact that her step-dad married their mom. Flint is bitter over being paralyzed and not getting the girl he thinks he loves (she's married to his brother). Ash lights him up, and soon he forgets about his troubles when he is around her. There are some sweet moments, some stupid things said, a separation, and a reunion to get them their HEA ending.
POV: This alternated between Ash and Flint's POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Good. I thought it flowed well, and I didn't feel the need to skim at any point.
Instalove: No. They move fast (fall in love in a month), but it felt like it was developed enough to be justified.
H rating: 4 stars. Flint. He was so biter that he was hard to like at first, but I ended up really liking him. He owned his major mistake, and did everything in his power to fix it.
h rating: 4.5 stars. Ash. She was so odd but in the good way. She was a trooper and always was laughing and trying to make others smile even when her own life wasn't the best. I only wish that she communicated a little better at times, but no big complaints with her.
Sadness level: Moderate. I teared up, but it never turned into ugly crying.
Heat level: Moderate. They have some great chemistry and some hot moments, but not so much that it took away from the storyline.
Descriptive sex: Yes.
Safe sex: Yes. Mentions of condom use.
OW/OM drama: No
Sex scene with OW or OM: No
Closure: This had good closure for the couple, as well as a opening for the next book. The epilogue was super sweet and they got their HEA ending.
How I got it: I paid the $0.99 on Amazon for it.
I loved this book. Flint is battling some demons and decides he needs to do it alone. After taking a bullet while saving Emily (his brother, Till's, wife), he is paralyzed and in a wheelchair. I felt him struggling to acclimate to this new world and he was still holding onto feelings for Emily. His own mind and thought process was becoming a hazard to himself, building a resentment toward Till, and Emily too for that matter.
So, he moves out and goes back to college, needing it for himself and to distance himself from Till and Emily. My heart was breaking for him, but he was young, and I felt he was reading too much into things, but who knows, when you think you feel one way, it's hard to change the direction of that. He really distanced himself from his family which pissed me off because they were his rock (even if he didn't know it) and they needed him in their lives as much as he needed them. I guess he just needed time to process things.
So, when family drama begins, it's no surprise that Flint does the right thing and gets involved. And what do you know, a girl name Ash also finds her way into his life. She was a little crazy, and has a father who used her in an unscrupulous manner. There was lots of drama with her family, and then she makes the mistake of opening herself to Flint, who hurts her badly with his words and actions. He reactively harshly and maybe panicked a little, but it was enough. She's out of there!
Yes, she disappears.....FOR THREE YEARS! WTF?!??! But Flint has never forgotten his feelings for her, and regrets a lot of what he's said and done to her in the past. He has however made amends with his family, and is beginning to do things to make his life better, all while continuing to search for her.
So, this series and the other series by Aly Martinez are just really great! I love getting glimpses of past characters, like Leo who was on a mission to locate Ash with his investigative skills, and even Slate, who tells it like it is (I love that badass!).
But the thing that absolutely threw me was near the end of the book.....that one chapter in Quarry's POV (he is Till and Flint's brother)......whoa!!! Talk about heartbroken, and now I am left here with a sick feeling in my stomach waiting for the next book. Why do you do this to me Aly Martinez???

And...again, this woman is the master of prologues!!
I didn't like Ash at the beginning. But honestly, I didn't like Flint very much either.Read more
