Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Liv and Quarry's story. Liv's dad is the head of security for Slade, who owned On The Ropes gym and mentors the Page brothers. Liv and Q meet when she is fighting some boys in the back ally of the gym, and they formed a strong connection from then on. Over the years they became best friends. I won't say much more in hopes of not ruining it -- but there is a good bit of tragedy that the two face and get through together. Some sexy times, some funny times, some sweet times....and they get their HEA ending.
POV: This alternated between Liv and Quarry's POV primarily, and there were some other parts that had other side characters POV as well.
Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed, and I thought it flowed well -- a little too well since I got sucked into reading until the early morning hours!
Instalove: No. They had a good amount of time to develop their feelings.
H rating: 4.5 stars. Quarry/Q. I liked him a lot. I've liked him in every book of this series, and it was fun to see him become a man in this book. He truly cared about Liv, and I loved their first date and the little ways in which he showed her that he loved her. I think his having the other girlfriend actually made him recognize that what he felt for Liv was the real deal and something to cherish. And since he was so young going through what he did with Mia, it actually helped him grow up and be ready for the relationship with Liv.
h rating: 4.5 stars. Liv. She was pretty amazing. She was the best type of friend, and I really liked how she loved Q. My only issue was the little bit of pushing the H away she did out of guilt.
Sadness level: Moderate. I did tear up a few times, but it never turned into an ugly cry.
Heat level: Moderate. They have some great chemistry and sexy times.
Descriptive sex: Yes
Safe sex: Yes and no. Mentions of birth control, but no mention of past sexual practices or std status.
OW/OM drama: Minimal to me - but might be a big issues for others
Sex scene with OW or OM: No
Closure: This had good closure with even the other brothers from the other books in the series, and I would call it a HEA ending with a cute jump ahead epilogue.
How I got it: I paid the $2.99 on Amazon
I think my favorite moments, are when Quarry and Leo go back and forth and Quarry "respectfully" tells Leo how it really is... Lol! In the end, Leo's reminiscent story reveals a love and mutual respect between the men, that goes as far back as Quarry's childhood. (YOU REALLY HAVE TO READ IT! IT'S
Aly has given these characters to us in such a way that they manage to leave their marks on our hearts. We've seen every character in the On The Ropes Series evolve from their youths and have laughed with them, cried with them, and felt for them.
This series, ON THE ROPES, and each book in it, couldn't have had a better name, as boxing is a perfect metaphor for what the Page boys, as well as the loves of their lives have had to suffer through. Every obstacle, they'd encounter, they'd conquer, but not without a "fight".
ON THE ROPES is one of favorites.
I am so going to miss this series.
