Boy meet girl, boys fall in love with girl, girl saves boy. Don't get me wrong, I love these stories. Quite a few of them are my favorites. Well, now I have a totally different story to add to my list of favorites.

What if they were already in love? What if it was him saving her? What if it didn't happen with the snap of your fingers? Don't get me wrong, I love standalones also. But sometimes it feels rushed. Not in this case.

I can't tell you how many times I wanted to flip to the end of this story (notice I did not say book), and see if they get their happily ever after. The suspense was killing me.

The phrase 'one step forward and two steps back' really rang true with Reed and Hadley. I mean just when you think these two can take a breath, life knocks them down again. There was so many surprises in this story, there was NO TIME for fillers.

The fact that it was a fighter romance was the icing on the cake. I absolutely loved this story. THE ENTIRE THING. It was such a breath of fresh air. It did not follow the romance story stereotype.

It didn't get a little worried around 85%, only to have the story come to it's HEA at 90%. My jaw hit the ground very early on and I don't think I took a deep breath until the end.....and when I say end, I mean of the story. Which means....cliffhanger. Yes, I think the cliffhanger starts early on and just gets more intense as the story goes.

6 stars read for me. I don't want to give anything away, I will just say this story was absolutely wonderful. Reading (not walking) on pins and needles is the only way I can describe it. I loved it.

Holy Crap! This book just bitch slapped me. I could not put it down and was up all night. A few things you need to know: there are some triggers (drug use, abuse) but its very well written and handled. CLIFFHANGER (just warning you!).
You must read this book. I can't stop thinking about it. I plan to write a full review on my blog once I process everything that just happened to me at the hands of a book. Seriously, the feels, man.

For a first book author, just let me say, I LOVED IT!!!! This book is angsty, funny and I could not put it down. There is a cliffhanger, not awful, but a cliff nonetheless. I can't wait to see how the story comes out. There are so many unanswered questions. As soon as I fell back in love with Reed, the main character, I received a punch in the gut and wanted to punch him. The heroine does have some drug issues and a lot of self esteem issues but this just goes to show you how even the strongest can sometimes slip. Also we have not one but 2 villains we love to hate. Well done SL Ziegler, I can't wait for the next. Write on.

Oh, this book- what do I say about this book that just ripped my heart out? I will start by saying it was very well written and overflowed with emotion. The story is told in dual POV so we get inside both Hadley and Reed's heads. And man oh man Hadley's head is a scary place at times over the course of the book but Reed's POV helped me to understand him and ultimately find a way to root for him as the story unfolded.

Fighting to Start covers several years in their lives and really focuses on how one decision can effectively cause a ripple effect as the resulting waves transform everything in ways you never would have predicted. And that story is far from pretty - miscommunications, secrets and heartache abound and are compounded by poor decisions made as s result.

That leads me to my struggle with the book overall. I am a person who reads for enjoyment and to find a happy place to lose myself for awhile. There is enough that happens in real life that can bring me down that I won't necessarily read a book that inflicts this type of emotional turmoil on me without preparing myself for it and really being in the right frame of mind to approach it properly. Unfortunately I went into the story somewhat blind, and after forcing myself to read through to the end, I found an unresolved ending that left me more than a little bit cranky and teary eyed.

So with that being said, the author did write an engaging and emotional story that was a page turner for sure. People who thrive on the emotional roller coaster and constant drama/ angst should definitely 1-click this story. I just personally was not in the proper mindset for this type of story when I read it and felt like I had been put through an unwelcome wringer right alongside them by the time I got to the last page.

5. Stars for an awesome book. This one has a great story, but I know there's more to come because of too many unanswered questions. So I'm ready for the next book. I'm hoping it answers who Hadleys real parents are.
