What if they were already in love? What if it was him saving her? What if it didn't happen with the snap of your fingers? Don't get me wrong, I love standalones also. But sometimes it feels rushed. Not in this case.
I can't tell you how many times I wanted to flip to the end of this story (notice I did not say book), and see if they get their happily ever after. The suspense was killing me.
The phrase 'one step forward and two steps back' really rang true with Reed and Hadley. I mean just when you think these two can take a breath, life knocks them down again. There was so many surprises in this story, there was NO TIME for fillers.
The fact that it was a fighter romance was the icing on the cake. I absolutely loved this story. THE ENTIRE THING. It was such a breath of fresh air. It did not follow the romance story stereotype.
It didn't get a little worried around 85%, only to have the story come to it's HEA at 90%. My jaw hit the ground very early on and I don't think I took a deep breath until the end.....and when I say end, I mean of the story. Which means....cliffhanger. Yes, I think the cliffhanger starts early on and just gets more intense as the story goes.
6 stars read for me. I don't want to give anything away, I will just say this story was absolutely wonderful. Reading (not walking) on pins and needles is the only way I can describe it. I loved it.
You must read this book. I can't stop thinking about it. I plan to write a full review on my blog once I process everything that just happened to me at the hands of a book. Seriously, the feels, man.
Fighting to Start covers several years in their lives and really focuses on how one decision can effectively cause a ripple effect as the resulting waves transform everything in ways you never would have predicted. And that story is far from pretty - miscommunications, secrets and heartache abound and are compounded by poor decisions made as s result.
That leads me to my struggle with the book overall. I am a person who reads for enjoyment and to find a happy place to lose myself for awhile. There is enough that happens in real life that can bring me down that I won't necessarily read a book that inflicts this type of emotional turmoil on me without preparing myself for it and really being in the right frame of mind to approach it properly. Unfortunately I went into the story somewhat blind, and after forcing myself to read through to the end, I found an unresolved ending that left me more than a little bit cranky and teary eyed.
So with that being said, the author did write an engaging and emotional story that was a page turner for sure. People who thrive on the emotional roller coaster and constant drama/ angst should definitely 1-click this story. I just personally was not in the proper mindset for this type of story when I read it and felt like I had been put through an unwelcome wringer right alongside them by the time I got to the last page.Read more ›
