Oscar-® winner* Cuba Gooding, Jr. stars as Darrin Hill, a slick-talking but down-on-his-luck NYC advertising exec who returns to his hometown in Georgia to claim the inheritance his aunt left him. But before Darrin can collect the money, he must fulfill his aunt's final wish - to create a local choir and lead them on to win the annual 'Gospel Explosion' competition. Darrin soon finds out that his hometown is full of colorful characters but short on talented singers. Then he meets Lilly (Beyonce Knowles), a beautiful jazz singer with a heavenly voice. Darrin sees Lilly as the answer to his prayers...if he can convince her his intentions are good and persuade her to sing. Watch as Darrin tries to take this spiritual motley crew to victory and along the way realize that this aunt left him something much more than an inheritance. Featuring performances by Shirley Caesar, The O'Jays and other music greats.

The story is sorta like... a wayward guy gets his groove on and goes right after spending his whole life playing tricks on everyone including his family. With his newfound girlfriend, a cool, Christian gal shows him the way it needs to be and being placed in a position of true authority and responsibility he must come through for himself and the rest of the characters.
Simple, fun, enjoyable, musical. A few slow spots during the 120 minutes but the music picks it back up each time.
There is no nudity of sex in this film but it is mentioned a time or two. There is very little if any foul language.
The Fighting Temptations is a great Saturday afternoon movie. I also suggest buying the soundtrack. There are a couple of songs that were not including on the soundtrack. Shame, shame!!!
I would say this is a perfect family movie for the holidays - a keeper than everyone can watch - especially if they are feeling a little low.
