This is the second book in the Lifesworn series; where the forest followed Queen-in-waiting Shanna, Fighting For You follows her best friend Penli. Penli followed Shanna to Morentia, but finds himself at loose ends in the court there, never quite fitting expectations enough to be viewed comfortably. Right up until he meets Lord Teia and his bloodgiver Sendaar - and spends a comfortable night with them both, then discovers that Lord Teia is betrothed to his old rival and enemy, Tishasanti. Penli grows worried, knowing that Tishasanti is cruel, vindictive, and not the type to allow his spouse any freedom. And so, Penli sells out a way to guarantee Lord Teia's freedom... Even if it means challenging to marry him himself.
Fighting For You is tightly written, the type of story where the foundation for everything that follows is laid early in the beginning, but compelling enough that you want to read it anyway.
I really enjoyed the exploration of Penli's personality, and the contrasts between his skills and love of beautiful clothes. His dominant steak plays well with Teia and Sendaar being submissives, and is especially speaking for the excellent communication between the three of them.
Unfortunately, we don't get to know Lord Teia and Sendaar particularly well, something I was looking forward to seeing in the final of three challenges Penli faces for them.
Over all: well worth the read, and my only complaint is that I wish it was longer so we could get to know Teia and Sendaar better as well.
