I was surprised how much I liked this book! First of all, I am a fan of Aurora Rose Reynolds. I one-click all her books, I don't even care. I want to read them all! I was a little hesitant about this one though because, from the teasers, it looked a little angsty. I'm not into angst. But, bc it was ARR, I read it~ and I'm glad I did! I really loved Austin! He was a great H. I also think she did a great job of developing and growing the characters as best she could for a shorter book. I was also surprised that she wrote such great 30-year old characters as all her other books have h/H in their early 20's.
That said, some of the plot didn't make sense. Is there a reason Lea's mom didn't come clean while she was alive? How does an Alaska fisherman afford a million $$ home? Do they really make that much? How does a Montana accountant afford a $600K office space? Do accountants make THAT much in Montana that they can save up and spend that much on a space in small town Alaska? If so, I'm moving and going back to school.
ARR NEEDS to get serious about her editors. I mean, seriously. Every single one of her books are HORRIBLY edited!! Sharpie is a brand name, so it is capitalized. {Even I know that and I'm a blogger. ;)} Waste is trash, waist is a part of your body. There is no reason for an author this popular to have crappy editors. As another reviewer mentioned, fans would be HAPPY to edit for a chance to get an advanced copy. And as I've written before, I know a FANTASTIC real-life, professional editor that does amazing work. Contact me AAR and I will hook you up. I guarantee that the complaints about editing in the reviews will go away.
Overall, I would read this if you like Alphas that are in it for the long haul. I'll be re-reading it bc I really love Austin~ and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Also, God-Speed on Jax & Sven!

Overall Rating: 4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

Air is life and without it all life will perish and that is a similar analogy to the two wandering souls in Aurora Rose Reynolds' novel, Fighting to Breathe. In this story we find our main characters, Austin and Lea drifting through life. Her father was a fisherman, who was lost at sea and his body was never recovered. After the devastating loss of her father, Lea left Alaska and her high school love, Austin. She moved to Montana to start a new life. When Lea’s mother calls years later wanting her to return home because she is dying of cancer, Lea agrees, hoping against hope that she will not run into Austin. In a small town that just wasn't going to happen. Austin never got over her betrayal and hated her for leaving him. Love is a fine line and he was walking a tight rope with her. He believed that they were meant to be together, but she had left him and never looked back. Lea had married someone else and started a life without him. This is their journey of forgiveness, redemption and a once in a lifetime, forever kind of love.

This was a powerful read that evoked numerous emotions, including happiness, sadness, grief and longing for our couple to find each other again. The powerful connection they shared was brought to life by this marvelously talented author. Once again Ms. Reynolds proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that her writing will not only capture your imagination but also dig into your heart. I fell in love with the characters and their heart wrenching story of love lost and found. This made a great addition to my library and I look forward to reading more from gifted writer.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. When I first read the blurb for this book I couldn't wait to read it. I'm a sucker for a second chance romance. I've also heard a lot of great things about Aurora's other books and was excited to read something of hers.

In the synopsis we learn that the heroine has returned after being gone for 15 years. She's scared to see the hero because she knows her departure caused him a lot of pain. At first the hero is angry with the heroine and wants nothing to do with her until a secret is revealed to him that has him reconsidering.

I feel like this story had a lot of potential especially in the beginning. I found myself engrossed in the book and couldn't wait to read what was coming up next, until the hero did a 180 and all of a sudden started pursuing the heroine. I felt like the book was too rushed and at points unrealistic. I was a little disappointed because I felt the book didn't deliver what the blurb said. I expected a lot of angst and emotion, which just wasn't there. I think if the book was longer the author would have been able to put more emotion and depth into the story.

I gave it 2.5 to 3 stars

Fighting to Breathe was a beautiful second chance romance that will leave you breathless.

What I love about Aurora's writing is that she sets the scene perfectly in order to hit you right in the gut. This story was so raw, sad, intense, beautiful, and real!

Austin and Lea are high school sweethearts with plans to marry after graduation and build a future together but a tragedy ultimately shatters their perfect dreams.

Fast forward 16 years and Lea returns back to the small town where she left her true love behind. Things are a little rocky and soon truths are revealed proving that love can prevail above all.

I loved Austin's grunting ways and his need to protect Lea. Lea was broken and fragile but she always remained strong with a smile on her face. Life separated them all those years ago but fate brought them back together.

This is one enchanting and inspiring love story that will have you fighting to breathe and cheering along side the characters. Aurora you've once again proven to be the queen of the Alpha males. Nicely done *cue the applause*.
