Note:When working as a Bluetooth transmitter, the M5 might fail to connect with a few car Bluetooth audio systems;

How to transfer the music from computer to M5.

Choose usb mode to storage mode and then insert the sd card into the card slot of the M5 and connect the player to the computer via USB.

1.How to upgrade the firmware of M5?

Upgrade when the M5 is on: Copy the firmware file to the root directory of the Micro SD card, go to system settings and click system upgrade.

Upgrade when the M5 is off: Copy the firmware file to the root directory of the Micro SD card, turn it off then hold the volume up button and power button to enter upgrade mode and release the button.

2.What are the common gesture controls for M5?

a.Swipe right from the left edge to return or exit;

b.Swipe down from the top edge for a Drop-down menu (fast access to the now playing screen/previous track or next track/play or pause/adjust screen brightness);

c.When the M5 is on song list or file list screen, swipe left from the right edge to pop up menu operations (can delete songs in batches, add songs to my favorites or playlists).

3. What are the button operation of M5?

In player mode: When the screen is on (non-lock screen clock), hold or press the volume button briefly to adjust the volume, press the power button briefly to turn the screen off/on; When the screen is off (or lock screen clock page), press the volume button briefly to adjust the volume, hold the volume button to skip to next or previous track, press the power button briefly to turn the screen off/on.

In Bluetooth receive mode: press the volume button briefly to adjust the volume, hold the volume button to play next track or previous track; press the power button briefly to play/pause; double-click the power button to turn the screen off/on.

4. How to switch the now playing screen to the lyrics display? Any other operations?

When the M5 is in the now playing screen, the default display is previous/next track, play or pause, play mode, add to my favorite or playlist operation;

Swipe from left to right to switch to the playing progress screen, you can drag the progress bar to the fast forward / rewind operation, this page can also delete songs, view detailed information and go to the EQ page;

Swipe from left to right again to switch to the lyrics display page.

Click the blank space on the above three pages to switch to the cover display. Click the cover again to switch back to the original page.

Under the cover display, swipe from left to right to switch to the previous track, swipe from right to left to switch to the next track, and swipe from top to bottom or from bottom to top to display the volume adjustment page.

5. What audio output does M5 support?

Supports PO/LO/SPDIF/USB Audio/Bluetooth output when playing on M5;

Supports PO/LO/SPDIF output when USB DAC is used;

Only the PO output is supported when receiving Bluetooth signal.

I thoroughly enjoyed using this for the 1.5 years it survived. This unit had hard use 5x a week for 8+ hours a day. Sadly the battery started to expand interally causing the case to separate and can no longer use it. Yes i definitely got my money's worth out of it etc, however i would have expected it to last a bit longer than 1.5 years at this price point...

This is an interesting product. In the bad old days, before phones had headphone jacks, there was the sony mw600. It was a headphone jack with a display and buttons. There was an onboard mic and fm tuner. It was great, but I’ve lost both of the ones I had because the clip sucked.

Then one day, Apple decided to ruin everything and take the headphone jack away. I have a few audio interfaces for DJing, and they work with iPhones. There are quite a few of them made for phones, some supporting usb, and others bluetooth. But this one is also a media player. I hate using iTunes and streaming music apps.

This little player plays flac and other good formats. It will just play the songs you put on the card. You can choose between accessing the card or hosting an audio interface via the usb-c port in settings.

So this product looks like an ipod nano or apple watch. It’s thicker, and has usb-c, 3.5mm headphone, and micro sd card slot. It has a plastic clip that snaps on and seems sturdy. The product looks good and feels nice.

It can receive bluetooth, it can also transmit bluetooth. It supports lots of codecs, so it doesn’t sound crappy the way old bluetooth did.

Clunky parts are the touchscreen. It is not quite as responsive as you would hope, and some of the screen buttons are small. Bluetooth is just an “app” and if you exit, and go play a song, it won’t butt in when the phone rings. It can only remember one Bluetooth connection at a time, so you have to reset it to switch. The date shows up on the clock app as “Sun. 17” no month or year? You can’t seek within a song.
Update, no one can hear me when making phone calls on bluetooth. The crappy mic might be the reason if this gets returned. The bluetooth receiver doesn't always boot up. Album repeat repeats your whole collection.

The sound is better than all the phones and computers I have and better than the traktor interface I have. It might lack power if you got some big cans, maybe get a high power amp with separate player. Considering it cost the same as just an interface and it does that and a lot more, I can forgive the clunky aspects.

Is this device perfect? No, of course not. The device sounds actually pretty decent.. has custom EQ, battery level in 1.4.7 firmware (current as of now).

You can plug this device into your phone apparently and copy songs to it and back... nice feature. MicroSD formats to FAT32 so you can remove and manipulate on your PC, etc.

A few minor glitches but nothing too bad. I played some FLAC, M4A, MP3, DSD files... and they all sound decent enough... no complaints from me.

One problem I ran into was that I had a corrupted file in my folder that was 0MB in size (due to a write error). When updating the library, the whole unit froze where I had to force reboot. Not a big deal but I purged that out and moved some music videos I had from my iTunes library out to another drive so it wouldn't sync when I ran DirSyncPro. (not included)...

The interface takes some getting used to... but I did after a few minutes. It's fine. No real complaints.. I still love how small this is... It's almost like an iPod square/watch Nano... same general look but without the built in clip on it. It does come with a plastic clip, so you can hold it in something. I'd still buy something else to protect from a fall... but it looks like it should be OK. Maybe I'll try to 3D print a rubber bumper case....

But it does what it should... easy to use.. and it sounds still better than my iPod used to. No complaints as of yet from me. I'll update if I run into any.

Nice Compact Music Player

I was looking for a small quality MP3 player to use when walking, working outside and working out. I used this player on a 5 hour flight from coast to coast and it worked beautifully with great sound clarity and ease of use. I will say the screen is nice and it displays album covers well but there is an issue I discovered. I found that the typical naming convention for me was a problem. I list the band and then the song and I have a very large collection of music. The display does not scroll sideways on your selection so if the band name is long then you are not sure what song you are selecting so it is hit and miss when you use the scroll function. The clip provided with the player seems to be fairly rugged to take normal use. Like any new device it does take time to get comfortable with its operation and I find the swiping to move between screens does not consistently work but that is minor inconvenience. I do not consider myself an expert in defining the quality of the high, mid range and low notes as I have hearing issues from a long life of music and military service. I think this player provides good music quality, portability at a very nice price point in today's selection of MP3 players. I love that it can hold up to 2TB as I am now looking to upload high quality FLAC files which require greater storage. There is a significant difference between music quality and you can hear it when using this player as well as others that can play higher quality audio. I gave it 4 stars for the few minor issues but overall I think this is a great music player so far. I am hoping a future firmware upgrade will solve the problem with reading your entire music file when scrolling.

However, Instruction manual - not clear and not systematic. For start, I could not find any instruction on how to add songs to the device from my Macbook or Samsung Android phone. Found a web post which states the use of OTG to be connected to the phone. Bought and waited for the OTG adapter but to my disappointment, the M5 could not link to phone but OTG works on my other devices. By trial and testing and much frustration, finally managed to connect to my Macbook. The solution is that you need to have an SD Card on the device which firstly never stated in the instruction or any other reviews from YOUTUBE. Wasted my time! So if you intend to get the M5, do include an SD card to your budget. For this 0-1 star. In total 3 star average experience.

All in all this is one of if not the best mp3 player I have. There are so many functions in this little square that it easily make the price worthwhile. I have a few issues with the UI, like not being able to play all the songs from one artist and other such things. My second and biggest problem is when using the Bluetooth casting, the sound is amazing when using lossless files using the aux (coming from a non audiophile), but as soon as you move to wirelessly connected headphones it makes sounds comparable to sand being scratched in your ear. I've used cheaper devices using Bluetooth with better sound coming out than this. Anyway to use other words this is an incredible device (props to Fiio) but would not recommend using it to listen to music from it wirelessly.

The touchscreen is very clunky and unresponsive and only stays lit up briefly, requiring a quick double press of the power button to re-activate it. This in itself is problematic because if you fail the press the button quickly enough, the unit will go into silent mode. Navigating between songs/albums is difficult 1. Because of the unresponsive screen and 2. Because the screen is so small. It's easy to hit the wrong icon on the screen. Battery life is terrible. There are no warnings when battery life is getting low - the unit just shuts down. Lastly, the second time I used the device it froze and wouldn't even shutdown manually - I had to wait for the battery to expire. Frankly, 2 stars is generous
