The soft leather FKBPR/B palm rest combines style with comfort, designed for the Majestouch full size FILCO keyboards, but perfect for standard keyboards. The interior is made from memory foam that is divided into two different heights allowing you to move the palm rest back and forth to suit your desired level of support. A heavy steel base with a rubber coated cloth covering provides stability and just the right amount of traction to hold its place, yet still remain easy to move over your desk when needed. Additionally, the leather is coated with textured polyurethane that provides water and stain resistance.

A Genuine Leather Palm Rest / Wrist Rest ... At Last!

Imported from Japan (with the box covered in Japanese characters alongside the English Characters) this is a very hard-to-find product. In a world filled with countless options for fake-leather / vinyl covered palm rest / wrist-rest products... as well as those covered in a soft and stretchy fabric with gel filling underneath... finding one covered in genuine leather is nearly impossible.

The first thing that stands out about this product is the price. At nearly $60 it is fully 3 to 5 times as much as any of its competitors. That's because... obviously... it stands alone in offering a genuine leather cover. The inside seems to be a very firm and resilient foam, that gives only slightly to the touch. It is not filled with a super-soft and squishy gel, nor a super-soft visco-elastic memory foam, as other products tout... but rather, a firm and supportive dense foam that retains its shape. You'll get used to that. I like it.

It has two levels of height across its wider-than typical body (three and a half inches wide). I have chosen to flip mine around such that the little black-on-black "FILCO" brand impression-mark is actually upside-down, because I prefer to have the higher part of this palm-rest / wrist-rest closer to me, and the lower part closer to the keyboard... but it works in either orientation to accommodate your personal comfort preference.

It's also got beautiful perimeter stitching in a contrasting white thread.

I can almost imagine the behind-closed doors discussion in some Japanese FILCO Company boardroom where the marketing department heads were saying to the production executives... "A $60 wrist-rest / palm-rest! Sir, this will never fly in the American Marketplace. The price point is just way, way too high to be competitive. The perceived value of genuine leather is lost on all but the most discerning, demanding, and affluent of consumers. You will never sell more than 1,000 units per year... it's just not worth it. Let's just market it here in Japan to a select target-demographic of high-end computer users. If the Americans want one... they can special order it through Amazon.com"

Yep. That's right. And that's exactly what I did.

There are a few things in life that you spend many hours per day... every day... touching. These include:
Your bed sheets
Your pillow
Your underwear
Your socks & shoes
Your office chair
... and your keyboard's wrist-rest / palm rest.

Call me a snob but... money is no object where this short-list of items is concerned.

The first thing I did when mine arrived was to moisturize it with a good leather preserving lotion.

$60 for the world's finest wrist-rest / palm-rest? You're darn right. Count me in. I'd have paid $100 for it.

My wrists say thank you

When I first took it out of the box I immediately noticed a strong leather smell which isn't abnormal but it was very strong. I happen to have orange scented leather wipes which fixed the issue :D After that I took time to look at the craftsmanship and liked it a lot, nothing to complain about at all. I have been having wrist pain for a bit now from typing way to much, I work on a glass desk. I put down the wrist pad and adjusted it where i felt comfy...fit like a glove. it has a step design which means the top of the pad sits higher then the lower part. the lower part of my palm sat in the crease perfectly. the pad itself is not soft, its very firm but certainly no where near as firm as a desk. pain in my wrists went away almost immediately. In my opinion its an added bonus that it just is very nice looking...No one is going to look at it and think cheap.

Would a cheap pad have done the same job? I really cant answer that, possible. Filco as a company/brand has earned my trust over the years and with them you really do get what you pay for. Not one regret.

This is a very nice wrist rest. It is the stiffest wrist rest I have ever used but it is very comfortable and gives good support. My only complaint would be I don't like how it is stepped up in the middle. I like that it is angled but would prefer if it was more of a wedge than a step up in the middle which I can feel with my wrist as it is laying on the wrist rest. I'm going to try out the Ducky wrist rest as well since that one isn't stepped or angled at all. I absolutely hate the feeling of those cloth, gel type wrist rests. Previously I had been using a hard plastic rest that came with my keyboard but I got a new keyboard that didn't come with one and this one fit the bill. It is expensive.

Edit - I received the ducky wrist rest. It is even more stiff than the Filco, surprisingly. However, it slides around a lot easier and the leather isn't as soft so I will stick with the Filco.

Both wrist rests are much firmer than the typical gel wrist rest.

Great quality, just not quite supportive enough.

My previous keyboard was a $20 Logitech with a plastic snap-on wristrest that lasted somewhere between 5 and 10 years. We had some good times, me and that keyboard, and the wristrest itself worked surprisingly well in allowing me to have lazy typing habits without actually causing me to hurt my wrists/hands. When I decided to take the plunge on a mechanical keyboard, I felt it would only be appropriate to have a similarly swag wristrest to go with it.

This one looks great, feels nice, and the build quality is top-notch. My only issue with it is that it's simply not quite high enough for where I want my wrists to be. It's a little hard to tell from the picture, but there are actually two different elevations of padding: it is NOT symmetrical about the divot that bisects it, but rather the lower half is a bit shorter than the upper half. In theory, this means you can flip it around to have a slightly higher resting point for your wrists, but in reality neither orientation feels quite right (partly because there will always be a gap between the wrist contact and the base of the keyboard). It also means the Filco logo will be upside-down if you choose to go with the higher side, although it's pretty discreet and not a big deal.

I'll be hanging onto it because it works well enough with my Das keyboard and it looks great; I just wish it accomplished its intended purpose a little bit better.
