Powell is not afraid to use modern parallels that, among other things, demonstrate clearly to a contemporary audience how knowledge of the timing of an event can inform our understanding of it and of a writers’ reasons to include or exclude it. He writes in a lucid and attractive style, displaying his admiration for Virgil on every page...' (D.E. Hill Greece and Rome)
Radicalises the study of politics in Augustan poetry...A book rich in arguments which opens new fields to explore.' (Frank Wittchow Gymnasium)
This stimulating volume seeks to put the party politics back into Virgils oeuvre...Powell rightly concludes that the success of the Augustan project has concealed the partisan and prophetic aspect of Virgils political stance...' (Stephen Harrison Mnemosyne)
‘...the contribution of this book lies above all in the compelling argument that the political and military history of the 30s BC is more important for an understanding of all three of Virgil’s major works than it is often taken to be... Powell’s Virgil is unashamedly pro-Octavian, pro-Augustus... This is not a fashionable approach to Virgil, and doubtless many will resist Powell’s political reading. But it will be impossible in future to ignore Powell’s careful and detailed arguments for the centrality of the historical context...’ (Philip Hardie and Julia Dyson Hejduk Vergilian Society Prize Committee citation)
‘Powell’s analysis is acute and his reading is coherent and cogent. This is a book full of interest and surprises on virtually every page...’ (John Godwin Journal of Classics Teaching)

I would love to see a book about how to take different classes of problems and use proper script, and operators, to calculate something and use the answer in a solution. But concatenating text to provide a full name doesn't cut it in my book. So for me, the book isn't as useful as it could be.
As we know, there's practically no (usable) documentation coming with software packages these days, and the Dummies books are usually of great help. Here, though, somebody at Amazon was apparently not watching the store.
This is an exceptionally complex program and apparently can be beaten into working well, with time and a great deal of patience. It is unfortunate that this Dummies does not live up to the usual Dummies format of talking to everyone who reads it rather than omitting the novice from the audience.
There is no Glossary and the Table of Contents is where the trouble starts.
The overwhelming majority of FileMaker Pro users are beginners in database design and development. Most of these people have either read the manual or figured out the basics on their own, and can wield FMP as an office productivity tool just fine. (If you are purchasing this book, and have not read the FMP manuals, I suggest that you do so, they are well written, not painfully long, and quite useful to get started.)
This book is aimed at helping people get to the next step; from office productivity user to fledgling developer, and it serves that purpose very well.
If you want to learn more about design and scripting in FMP, then buy this book. After you've mastered this material, go for some of the more advanced texts out there.

I was attracted to the Dummies book by the word "Scripting" in the title which suggests this subject is a main topic. However, dipping into the content shows a distinct lack of detail. I mean, it doesn't even cover CASE statements, a very useful form of IF statement which are far easier to write out, whereas more generalist books such as "Filemaker Pro, The Missing Manual" from Pogue Press and Ray Cologon's "Filemaker Pro Bible" provide far more information on this subject and on scripting in general, as well as starting from a beginner's perspective.
In this book's favour though is quite a nice intro to the basic elements of Filemaker, but then, don't all Filemaker books aimed at beginners offer this?
As for the writing style, well, it's a Dummies book. Just don't be misled by the title.
