Lucian was the typical one night stand manhoe, using women for sex and never having a relationship. When he met Jordyn, the heroine, that changed. For the first time he was possessive and protective towards a woman and gave up his manhoe ways. I always like scenes where the hero displays his possessiveness but prefer neither actually have sex with anyone else. I loved how neither main character had sex with OW/OM after meeting. Jordyn made the best of a bad situation not letting her harsh childhood negativity impact her behavior. She was part of a MC group but not by choice. I liked that she did not sleep around only having sex with the MC man that claimed her, giving her protection from being used by the MC members. There is a scene of violence against Jordyn that I found painful to read but I could handle it because she was never raped.
I thought that the sex scenes were hot and the story had a HFN ending. I would have preferred a HEA ending but understand that there will probably be more books in the series and therefore was ok with it. I hope that any future stories that have Jordyn and Lucian in them continue to show them being happy.
This was not only my first mafia romance, but also my first Bethany-Kris book and it was amazing! I was sucked in from the very beginning. This book grabbed hold of my heart and had me dying to know what was going to happen next. Everything from Lucian's back story to the man he had become to the undeniable bond he shared with his family was amazing to read.
Just like most romances, the way Lucian finds himself head over heals for a girl catches him of guard. That instant connection that he felt and the attraction to Jordyn is what makes this story even better. The things he has to overcome to be with her and as their relationship blooms you get to see how perfect she is for him.
This was amazing & I will definitely be reading the rest of this series and maybe even the rest of Bethany-Kris's books. She is an amazing writer...Check her out!
One of the main reasons that I'm in love with this book is the writing. Its so hard to find writing styles that I like. For this book, not one issue. She didn't make it all about one character or the other. It was equal amounts of the H and h. Wonderful to finally see that. I love when I can understand where the man is coming from.
The second reason that I love this book is because it didn't focus on one major plot scheme. There is so much going on in this book but it doesn't leave you guessing in a bad way. There was a lot going on but it wasn't too much to the point of me being like "seriously? really? that's it?". It gives you enough to second guess but not to third guess. It was and is wonderful to read a book and it not leave you hanging or a HEA for now.
The third reason as to why I love this book is the characters. There were small characters, major characters, idiot characters. Through it all, they were awesome. Some have you thinking that they need to be shot and others have you rooting for them. The dynamic between all of the characters was awesome. The chemistry was there between the main characters, the love was there for family members. I loved how Jordyn was strong but still able to convey her weakness in a convincing matter. Lucian... Well, let's just say I'd forget I was married. Its not just for the looks either. He's strong but still has his own weaknesses. He able to show Jordyn how much he loves her but not take it to the extreme of jealous alpha to the extreme. It was so awesome and wonderful and just awwwwe to read this love story.
Our heroine, Jordyn, is a 'possession' of an MC club and they treat her pretty horribly. There's definitely a dark side to the first part of the story where there are some graphic descriptions of physical abuse to the heroine.
Lucian is the son of the boss of NYC, and when he sees Jordyn for the first time he's immediately drawn to her and wants to help her.
We had a serious case of insta-love going on. And, unfortunately, that's just one of my pet peeves and something that I quickly lose interest in.
Lucian is a great hero. Compassionate, and wants to do everything he can to protect Jordyn. He's a hero you could actually see yourself with in real life. And I liked that a lot about him.
This could have been a story I loved minus the insta-love and some added conflict between the H and h. Becuase there was no conflict at all. They fell into an amicable relationship really soon, and the story slowed way down for me.
Just because I didn't love this one doesn't mean I won't be trying out the others in the series.
