He introduced an interesting secondary plot involving a ghost and a hunt for the ghost's murderer. All this was happening while the serial killer was gradually moving in for his final kill.
My only slight disappointment is that O'Brien has used a similar character theme with this book as with the last two I have read (Killing Spree and Disturbed).
The main protagonist is a woman trying to protect her son (or step son) from the serial killer who kills her husband near the end of the book. This has now happened in the three O'Brien books I have read. Hopefully the next one will have some variation on this, otherwise it's just the same type of story rehashed each time.
Also in this book it was not too difficult to guess who the killer is.
But all that aside it is still a good read with a few unexpected twists, and I fully recommend it to murder mystery buffs.
