Unfortunately the text is brutalized on nearly every page by basic errors, typos, and awkward and omitted structures. Most of these can be caught by simple proofreading but there are a few continuity problems that would stand up well to more concerted editing. If this is to be the first volume of a series then it must be as craftsmanlike a rendition as possible. With those corrected I would certainly have given this another star.
Having said that, I would not normally bother with reviewing a novel as flawed as this -- but it is, in part, a great and fun read in spite of that. Especially after the author comes out with an updated, corrected edition.
Aside from a few, very few, minor editing slips, this was to my mind a perfect book. And I look forward to more from this writer. It was a rollicking good ride, with twists and turns taking what you thought to be the direction of the story into a totally different spinoff. Brilliant, thoughtful science fiction with all the elements of a great story. Well done!
But I am glad I did!
In the beginning it seems endlessly repetitive, but the slight variances kept me interested, and the repetitive nature is crucial to the complete story line.
I can only say, keep reading. It becomes richer and more intricate and that adds to the rich fabric of the saga. I hope there will be more from this emerging author!
Ignore the few bits of typos here and there, and just enjoy!

If I have a book, I feel I should honour the work put into it and read it from start to finish, regrettably, this book was one that I just could not finish - it annoyed me far too much, linguistically.
To start, even in the portion of the book that I read, whoever did the proof-reading missed a lot of errors. Mind you, I can empathise with the proof-reader as the English the book is written in made me wonder if it had been badly translated from another language. This was such a strong feeling that I scrolled to the back of the book at least twice to check out the author. I discovered that he was American and had held a good job.
I'm sorry Joe Agster but, after the 5th iteration, I just had to give up having concluded that you must have written your book in some obscure programming language!!
Indeed, it was a brilliant piece of work, and despite the, in my opinion, slow and wasteful beginning, I became absorbed into the elements of the story. I look forward to the next book.
