Final Fantasy IX
I received this Game a lot earlier than expected. I got it on the 11th when it had it scheduled for the 16th, so amazing delivery speed! I bought "NEW" and it came just like that it was sealed in plastic wrap and after opening and inspecting the contents the CDs had no signs of scratches or wear and the manual seemed to have never been opened. The only little thing was the "teeth" In the middle that hold the forth disk had three broken off an were rattling in the case, but I will of course chalk that up to poor handling, everything else about the case was flawless, no scratches, no cracks. When I popped the disk in a started up the Playstation (PS1, the smaller, roundish version) it loaded and started smoothly and played just as great! So far I definitely recommend getting it from here!
However, back to Final Fantasy IX, I just don't like how you can't get emotionally attached to the characters due to their lack of a thorough back story, or lack of internal struggle, or anything! That, and the game is a little childish, as far as the character design and dialogue goes. I can get past that, but every so often I find myself having to pause to roll my eyes. Another thing I didn't like was the explanation of how the characters gain abilities. It took me playing Final Fantasy VI before I really realized how the ability system worked.
Now on to what I like about the game. I suppose I like the fact that the game is light and comic filled. There are few times the game ever stays serious for an extended period of time, which can seem out of balance, but I appreciate it. Also, I love the music! It almost makes the never ending random battles worth it. I also like the storyline. Yes, it's at times childish and too light (Yes, it's possible), but the overall plot is a positive.
This game is still deserving of a 5 star rating to me probably because of the nostalgia that comes with it. When I first played this game I was very young, and loved it back then, making me love it now.
To wrap this up, I would recommend it, before going into the even earlier Final Fantasys, because if you play them before you play this one, I promise you, you will not like this game, because that's kind of what happened to me. I played the first part of this game and then moved on to Final Fantasy VI, and then I realized that Final Fantasy IX DOES in fact have faults.
Steiner is very protective with Garnet, and will not let her close to Zidane if he can help it.
Zidane is the most open character of the series, however he gets sort of sullen on the third disk.
All in all, the best game for the ps1!! Also, this hails the last Final Fantasy game that'll be for the ps1.
