FF7 Remake Part 1

Complete re-imagining. redesigned from ground up and not just a HD filter. There are current gen graphics with fully 3d environments instead of fixed angle camera. Graphics reminiscent of FF7 Advent Children film

Note this is not the full game. Just part 1 of a multi-part series. The focus is on the Midgar section of the original's story. Despite it only being part 1 it feels like a complete AAA game.

Game will last 30-35 hours. Add 10 to complete everything. When you complete the core game you unlock hard mode and chapter select. Equips and items carry over

Original Midgar section lasted only 4-5 hours. They've expanded the lore and story of the game: There are more character development, and side characters are more flushed out. There are new elements to story with new story beats and cutscenes. What used to be one line text is expanded out into a lengthy cutscene. There are also in game banter while you traverse the world

--Gameplay:

Combat system have been revamp. you engage in combat in real time. Controls are tight and responsive. Swing sword at enemies in overworld for pre-empive attack

This is not a turned based RPG with random encounters. You can turn on classic mode, but it's not as engaging and it feels like you're playing on easy mode

Real time fast paced action is similar to FF7 Crisis Core but more enhanced, took elements from FFXIII (stagger system) and FFXV.

During battle sequence you can lock on attack, light heavy, evade, and block

Use abilities, go into tactical mode. Enter freeze frame to select special attacks/use items/spells. If you don't want to enter tactical mode you can use shortcuts by holding L2 and pressing a face button

Special attacks and spells uses ATB guage/meter which charges up overtime or when dealing damage against enemies

There's also a limit gauge bar which lets you do an ultimate move. meter fills up as you take damage or when dealing damage when enemy is stunned

Enemies have stagger meter. once full enemies gets stunned and you do massive damage

There's a materia system where you equip/upgrade gems to weapons granting it abilities

Summons now fight along side you for a short duration. Can only be used on certain battle scenarios though

Switch characters using d-pad. Good for taking out long vs close range enemies. Team AI won't use special moves so best to switch to them if you know they're super effective against enemies.

Cloud is the all rounder, Tifa: close combat/speed, Barret: range and tank, Aerith: mage and healer

There are also ton of mini games and side quests for diversions.

Mini games includes Bike battles, Dancing (DDR/QTE), darts, reactor handle, robot arms, squats/pull ups (QTE), waste water pump, and whack a box

Side quest sounds like lame filler, but it gives you good exp and weapon upgrades. Also it helps develop Clouds character from being a loner to a person willing to engage in a community.

Overall, had an amazing time re-visting FF7 world with additional story/lore, gameplay enhancements and updated visuals

The Remake That Never Was.

Like many since that technical demo for the PS3, oh so long ago. I’ve been eager for a FF7 game by then to today’s standards. Not so much for the graphics (like some who’re only caring more for the look over anything else), but for how the story can be better told as well corrected (without localization errors, censoring, or the sort), for old time players and for newer ones who haven’t experienced a game like FF7.

Now that day has finally come, or so I thought.

Outside of any bad press in the lead up to this release (like Tifa’s some what downsized breast’s or some alterations to her overall outfit, etc), or any of the insightful an promising interviews from staff like Yoshinori Kitase and others. Let’s talk simply about this game and what’s in it.

First an foremost this isn’t going to be the FF7 you believed you’d be coming back to. While this is supposedly a “Remake,” with some differences, this in truth is a Reimagining of FF7 that ends up being a different and new take of the classic JRPG game. Which for new bloods might not come off as to much a issue. However for those long time vets from 97 to now, such as myself, this is rather disheartening. As this isn’t what we were promised overall. Sure some differences is one thing to swallow, but a entirely new FF7? That’s rather hard to take to be honest.

Unfortunately I can’t really go into great detail on what makes this no longer the overall same FF7 story from long past. Yet if I were to say anything that might be able to convey anything of sort, it would have to simply be “Tetsuya Nomura.” For his influence makes itself known in no time, as well his type of stories. Sure he isn’t credited as the writer or story concept, but he is the director as well in charge at Square. So if your familiar with his story style and influence from Kingdom Hearts, then you’ll understand what I mean when or if you enter this supposed Remake.

Aside from the story, the graphics look nice, and the music is well done.

The combat is hit or miss really, with a bad AI that you can’t adjust like in some earlier titles. Add to it a lot of side quests to extend an dull out your time in Midgar.

Overall this had so much promise, but sadly isn’t what many hoped for or were promised. In all honesty if anyone is still wanting to play this, my advice is to at least hold off until a good sale pops up or you know a guy or gal you can borrow it from. As is, it’s not worth the asking price in my honest opinion.

Edited to 5 stars: Square Enix sent me my preorder codes after a few days. Game is still outstanding

+ It's pretty
+ Seeing the city and the characters from all new angles is amazing

Cons
- Dishonest marketing: a reboot not a remake, part 1 of a multipart series
- The demo is intentionally misleading, giving the impression that you are replaying FF7
- The game does not follow Final Fantasy VII, it's an entirely new and not particularly great story
- The world is a hollow shell, filled with empty rooms and corridors, with barely anything to find or interact with
- Boring, tedious side quests
- Annoying, unsatisfying action-oriented combat
- The ATB (battle) system is flawed and fails spectacularly in single combat, especially against bosses
- It's just not fun. Nostalgia-inducing characters and places can't make it into a good game

Aunque el precio fue algo elevado, debo decir que valió la pena, me tomó mucho tiempo volverlo a encontrar y en todos lados estaba agotado. El producto llegó en perfectas condiciones, tenía miedo de que la caja llegará con golpes pero llegó mucho mejor que la veces que he comprado juegos en tiendas fisicas. Del juego ni hablar, gráficoz excelentes, la banda sonora excepcional, el sistema de batalla tal vez cueste un poco al principio, pero una vez que le agarras el modo, puedes adaptar cada personaje al estilo de lucha que quieras, muy entretenido y divertido. Y ese final, aunque ciertamente controversial, deja la puerta abierta para una historia con potencial de ser mejor al original, aunque sólo el tiempo dirá si Square Enix lo logra.

Me gustó mucho el precio y el juego de esta edición especial, lo que no me gustó es que mandarán el juego en una bolsa sin protección, llegó golpeado de las esquinas, creo que estás ediciones deberían tener cuidado los de Amazon en mandarlas protegidas, porque al final del recorrido los de AM/Pm no tienen nada de cuidado.
Aún así gracias, se quedó para mí colección

J’ai payé pour avoir l’édition deluxe et je l’ai reçu incomplète. Il manquait le disque de musique qui était supposé être inclus. J’ai contacté le vendeur qui ne m’a répondu qu’à mon 2e message. Voilà pour les côtés négatifs. Par contre le vendeur m’a offert de me rembourser, mais je n’étais pas intéressé car j’avais eu le produit à bon prix. De plus le jeu était de la qualité mentionnée dans l’annonce.
