One of the Last Great FF Games

When FFX came out it blew people away. Nothing as cinematic or graphically impressive had been seen before. It pushed the PS2 to the limit. Even today, I am still amazed at how good they were able to make this game look 15 years ago.

Despite people thinking the game is confusing, the story is rather straight forward when you pay attention to what is going on. There are flashbacks, some time travel, and a vague exposition that slowly reveals the plot. Nothing out of the ordinary for a Final Fantasy game. Even if you think the plot is weak - the graphics, gameplay, and soundtrack were amazing.

This was the first voice acted FF game and it kind of showed, unfortunately. A lot of moments when the dialog was not in sync with the mouth movements, but that seems fair since this was Square Enix's first attempt. The voice actors are all very competent in their delivery and I don't mind any of the casting choices.

The battle sequences are in the classic turn based style, which I miss very much. Can't stand Final Fantasy games trying to be an ARPG. The game's roots are in turn based action and I will never know whey they changed after 10.

The soundtrack, I think, is some of Nobuo Uematsu's greatest work. Basically every track is catchy and sets the appropriate mood for the scene. The scope of the game really shows with the right song to accompany it. Lots of great tracks with Sutaki da ne, being a real power house.

My only gripe with the game is that there is no traditional experience points to level. After every battle you get a some battle points and when you get enough you can add new spheres to the sphere grid. What is the sphere grid? It is basically a multi-directional grid that has nodes which can be filled with an appropriate sphere. Some nodes are health, agility, MP, or learning new abilities. The problem is that you will wish you could grind and get all your stats up, but maybe you only will have access to some MP and agility nodes. You get spheres after battles too, which are generally determined by your enemies you defeat. The best spheres (ability spheres which unlock new moves) are the rarest and only drop from certain monsters in certain areas. Once you find one, it is best to sit for a while and stack up as much as you can. You will always have tons of other spheres to spare, but it will seem you are always short on ability spheres.

After a while you get used to the leveling system, so it is not even that awful just different and unfair sometimes. This game was amazing when it came out and is still amazing today. You can pick up the HD remaster on PS3 which comes with X-2 (fun game as well). The game really shines after a slight graphical face lift and breaths new life into the game.

Pick it up for cheap either way. Always a great game.

FFX lives up to expectations

Graphics: Although the graphics might be considered outmoded by current standards (lets face it, this is no Skyrim), they are still outstanding. The world and the characters are detailed. The colors are rich and vibrant. The scenes are almost cinematic. This is definitely a well designed game.

Gameplay: There are several notable differences from previous FF games and FFX. For one thing, there is no world map. This means you're pretty much stuck on the set path of start to finish (with a few minor exceptions). For another, the battle system is quicker than previous FF games. These changes, while significant, do not hurt the gameplay. Yes there are a ton of random encounter battles and yes the experience/leveling up is gained by a sphere grid rather than just leveling up, but you are able to mess around with equipment and the battles themselves are generally engaging. Moreover, the aeons are probably some of the best things to work with in the game and the cut-scenes are seamlessly incorporated into the play.

Storyline: The story of the game is well-written, with twists and turns that leave you itching to keep playing until you finish. Perhaps the best part of the story is the character development. As you go on in the game, you not only see the slow transformation of the characters, you also see how their lives are interwoven. You are able to envision all of the actions and consequences. You can anticipate the big moments. Yet, you never have all of the information. You gain insight into the characters lives only by continuing the journey, and the journey is an epic adventure.

Review- Final Fantasy X

This game is one of the best RPG games that you will be able to pick up. The graphics on this game are absolutely phenominal, bright, clear and crisp. The music isnt too bad either. This game has a really good storyline, much better than the one for FF12. Also, the battle system is very easy to use, you can bring in and out characters as you wish, in order to keep them from dying andto make surer everyone gets exp.

On the negative side, I do not like the level up system of this game. I like that in FF12 you can level up like normal, you know what level you are at, and all of your stats change with each level up. With this game, you have to choose your priorities and pick what level up you want if you want to increase your speed, luck, magic ect. This part I absolutely hate, I want that done for me. I am thankful that the license system from FF12 was not used in this game as that was a real nightmare (Come on dont make me get a wepons license, I wanna just pick up and ax and just start hacking, I dont want to wait to be allowed to use it!)

The story line in this game is great, I'm not going to go into details on it, becuase I am only about 1/2 way through the game, so I really dont know it, wiki it if you want. The one thing I liked about FF12 that i dont about FF10 is that in 12 you can skip the cutscenes.. I know, the fanboys are going to get mad that i wanna skip the story, vut sometimes I have stuff to do and I am stuck in the middle of a 15 minute cutscene.. Please, WTF!

Lastly the characters in this game are absolutely awesome. I think it is unfortunate that Tidus, who is the main character in this one is such a whiney baby. Go figure, the main character is the crappiest character in the game! Lulu & Yuna are fantastic sorcerers, youw ill be using them constantly, but dont even think of using their attack, Wakka is kind of annoying, but his dark and sleep spells are necessary, and his "rulebreaker" (poison weapon) is fantastic. Auron and Khimari are great especially for breaking through armored creatures). Really, I have become spoiled I use Lulu for everything since her black magic attacks are more powerful than anyone else's crummy weapons... My only complaint about Yuna, while her healing spells are a real savior, I wish the Guardians were stronger, I would rather use Lulu than a guardian.

Definately go out and buy this game, you will love it. It is addictive and you will spend hours on it. Pick up the strat. guide, you will definately need it as this game is massive.

FF X is very fun. I just bought this game and I am addicted already.

The only thing is that I can't seem to skip the the cut scenes, but I do enjoy the story line. I think it's awesome I can summon pets, with Yuna. I enjoy the fighting style of the game. I like that I can select from commands, to cast spells. Also, the fights seem to last for a minute, or 2, which makes it more fun. But the boss battles can last awhile, but I like it that way.

The story line is very deep and long. If a person were to record all the Cut scenes, it make a nice long movie.

I can ride chickens, play blitz ball. Though I think blitz ball is ok. I would rather fight in battle.

The graphics. I have to agree look great for the ps 2, for this game.

The camera is full view, which I also enjoy, as I am a fan of full view camera angles in video games.

I like I can play girl and guy characters. There is even an animal character who fights in battle as Yuna's guardian. I think Lulu is cool to, as she cast black mage spells. I think there are 6 characters to chose from in battles. I'm, trying to remember, but I think it's awesome, that I can select from different characters to fight with.

The screen will break, before a monster battle. I don't mind though, just stating it's on this game, like it was in FF X-2.

The puzzles are a little confusing for me, but I can use game cheats. This is mostly a fight game, but there are some puzzles to figure out. I will soon be going to the next sphere puzzle room. I looked on youtube.

I see this game has very good reviews and I can see why. I also bought the game for my kid for Christmas as she is a fan of RP games, like me. I really think she will enjoy this game, as I did. Very fun, very entertaining game.

I am also a fan of FF XII, and FF XI, but FF X is not an online game, no monthly charge and I would rate the best, for not being an online game. I found another FF favorite.

I was a Teenage Girl Trapped in a Fantasy World.

I know its been years since this game has been out, but not everyone has bought it, so here it goes. When i played the game, for some reason i had my skeptics about it. I had rented it one time and felt in love with it so bad that i got it for christmas. I would daydream about this game sometimes when i was at school, now that i look back i must have been one weird girl in love with a video game character.

It's bascially about this Famous blitzball player (he'll narrate the whole game for you) who's performing that night. A mysterious monster comes and tears his home, Zanarkand, taking him 1000 years into the future where his world no longer exists but only in the state of ruins. You get to meet and explore this new world called Spira, plus their strict religion. Painfully, Tidus, the character you control has to watch what he says around people or he may get punched in the face and be chased down. He'll meet a summoner who feels its her destiny to follow in her father's footsteps and protect spira from the same mosnter, Sin who attacked Tidus' home. You will travel with her and her guardians by foot to Zanarkand

What I like about the game is that there are many intelligent races such as the Ronso, Albhed, Hypello, Guado etc. And at some points you will be pulled into the middle of some of their personal wars against each other. bascially drama. The Albhed has a language you can try and learn. You can pick up Albhed Primers i believe and it'll help you understand what they are saying.

The battle system is smart, because to the right of the screen i believe is a little window showing who's turn it will be next, plus it will also show you what would happen or how many turns you'll be ahead or away depending on what option you do. like for example, if you want to cast fire, it may knock up or down your next character's turn. it just depends on what you do.

Another reason why it's smart is becuase all of your characters can earn credit at once. i believe you have 7 people. so instead of taking 3 and leveling them up 3 at a time, every single one of your characters can be in a single battle at once. so this really saves time. however only three can fight but the rest of the members stand in the back, all you have to do is call them and they will come.

Instead of playing Cards like you would in the past Final fantasy games, you'll get to play Blitzball. sometimes i would play 4 to 5 games a day. You can easily get hooked onto it.

Absolutely awesome role playing game...

While i greatly enjoyed this installment in the Final Fantasy saga, it was just a tad bit different than the past games with its few flaws.

First off, the good stuff. The graphics rock, the music is good, the characters are all very unique and memorable, especially Auron (one of the coolest of all time).

Plus the gameplay is one of the funnest in the Final Fantasy series.

The fact that you can actually 'control' the summoned monsters was awesome beyond belief. Seeing Anima attack for 50k damage on a regular attack is something to see...

However, in my opinion, there are a few things which knocked a star off this games rating.

First off theres Wakka and Kimahri. Kimahri spoke very little almost to a point of being a mute. Add in the fact that his character is a 'jack of all trades' and 'master of none' and you will find yourself using him very rarely. He is pretty much filler gameplay wise and story wise.

Then theres Wakka... oh boy where to start.

His voice acting sounds ridiculous as a Jamaican surfer or something. Not to mention that he is possibly the strongest character in the game and his weapon is a VOLLEYBALL.

I found myself keeping him in the back ranks against everything except flying enemies (which he specializes against).

Now quite possibly the worst part of the game... the sidequests.

The sidequests dont even start until youre about 95% through the game and finally acquire the airship. Than the torture begins.

Just thinking about the final chocobo race, the butterfly catching, and dodging 200 lightning bolts makes me cringe. And catching 10 of every monster in the game for the battle arena? Ouch!

Though it kind of evens out because the items you get through these terribly difficult and frustrating mini games are very powerful.

All in all this game is a truly awesome experience. It took me about 55 hours to beat the game with about 80% of the sidequests finished. And every minute was a joy... except for some of those sidequests.

But to put it simply, if own a PS2 and enjoy role playing games than you cannot be without this game. Its easily one of the classics for both the Playstation and the Final Fantasy series.

The best modern Final Fantasy game yet!

Sure, FFVII was a huge leap in graphics and gameplay, and VIII and IX improved at least in the graphics area (I wasn't too thrilled with the stories in VIII and IX), but X blows them all away.
The first Final Fantasy to take advantage of the PS2 with it's superior memory and graphics capabilities. FFX's graphics are superb! There are basically 3 different levels of graphics, the gameplay, which is the lowest in detail, the cutscenes, which are slightly higher in graphics, and the full motion videos, which are absolutely the best I've seen in any game! One of the best examples of the high quality video capabilities is the first time you see Lulu (the magic user) in a FMV. The detail in her costume (especially the belts) is the best I've seen for the PS2.
Setting the graphics aside (Hey, it's a FF game, you should expect great graphics) and on to the game itself:
About twice as long as any of the recent games (VII, VIII & IX were about 20 hours or so if you zipped through), FFX will take at least 30 hours to beat, and that is if you know what you are doing.
One thing that might disappoint fans of the Final Fantasy series is that FFX is a lot more dirrect than the other games were. Although I am not very familiar with IX (and told I hadn't missed much), FFVII and VIII allowed for a lot of wandering around to build up levels, this was done mainly in wandering around on the map and running into random groups of monsters. But FFX is missing the map that you may be familiar with, in fact there isn't much of a chance to wander around at all. 75% of the game is spent on a narrow trail with very few intersections and choices in dirrections. For the most part of the game you are given a single trail, and a direction (given on the small transparent blue map that is a familiar site).
Another big change in gameplay is the way that your character increases their skill. There are no "levels" really, instead you earn points from battles which eventually give you "levels" but those levels are then spent in conjunction with spheres that you pick up along the way in an elaborate system of earning HP, MP, magic, and specials. I'd try and explain it, but it isn't important, and it is explained in the game.
With this latest installment in the FF series Square has continued it's streak of keeping in head of the other RPGs, and eating hours of our time that should probably be spent sleeping, but you just couldn't find that save spot that wasn't in the middle of a plot twist until about 4AM.

I will start out with the apparently heretical statement that I was not a fan of the earlier final fantasy games. I am a big RPG fan, but please don't shoot, maim or otherwise attack me, because it is true. I found them all to be overly melodramatic, meandering, very predetermined, and frankly too much to sit through until the end. However, Final Fantasy X has hooked me.
That is the great thing about the PS2. I have tried several games that never interested or whose predecessors have failed to entertain on my PC or the PS one. This game falls into this category.
The major improvement is in the voicing and the movies. The story moves along with incredible cut scenes and plot exposition. No more reading along with out dated graphics and long load times. There is more room to wander for those of us who like the side quests. The battle system is much improved over the "real time" system, and now leads to more strategy and thinking during battles, not just fast paced button pushing and hoping for a good outcome. Yes, it is less realistic, but this is a game. The grid system for leveling up is major improvement, and you can spend considerable time weighing the pros and cons of each direction you can pursue and which locks to use up your key spheres on. Another place for fans of increasing the strategy.
All in all, the game can be tailored to whatever the player prefers. It can be fairly fast if you plow strait through to the end and (like I did) feel that the prior games got a bit tedious, I did it in about 45 hours. But, you can spend days traveling around with the side quests and some get extremely hard, and I have not completed them all yet.
To keep this short and not delve into all the technical stuff that most of us honestly don't care about, I will put it this way. The game is beautifully done, the right mix of gameplay and melodrama have been met, the controls are adequate and easy to learn, the strategy can become challenging, the music and movies are tremendous and the battle system is probably the best on the playstation 2.
All in all, this is like watching an interactive movie. It is challenging enough for the adults and entertaining enough for the kids. For PS2 RPG fans it has set the standard.

Still as good as it was 11 years ago!

After being let down by FF XIII, and completely disappointed by the mess that FF XIII-2 was, I decided to go retro, and rebought FF 8 / 9/ 10/ & 12 for the PS2. FF 10 has always been my favorite, and it holds up well. This was towards the end of grand story telling by Square. The storylines of 13 & 13.2 are just about unfathomable, compared to older games in the series.
It looks pretty good on the big screen for being a PS2 game. And, I am looking forward to reliving the other past installments once again.
They dont make um like they used to. It's a shame developers have gotten away from turn-based, storyline oriented games. Everything now is geared towards intense, eye-candy real time action. And that's where Square-Enix really get clumsy with their implementation.
There was talk, at one time, to redo FF 7 - 8 & 9. I wish they still would consider doing that. And who's to say Square-Enix cant toss in a game with Cloud, Tidus & Lightning, together! Now, That would be a time travel experience!
Relive the old games. Better than waiting another year, only to be dissapointed again.

The final fantasy series has always been my favorite for RPG and FFX is no exception! This one stands out due to the great graphics, epic storylines and now the characters have spoken diaglogue that only adds to the experience.
Tidus is the main character- a popular sportsman whose main passion is the sport of Blitzball- a soccer like game. That is until his whole world and existence is changed by Sin- a monster that destroys everything. With the help of his allies, Tidus goes on this great adventure to defeat Sin- along the way he fights the typical FF battles, gains experience points, levels up and learns new tactics and of course, meets alot of allies/friends.
Besides the graphics, another standout in this game are the mini games- such as Blitzball that you can play in addition to the main storyline.
Another FF addition is the sphere grid where you can take control of the character's development. Alot of other reviewers disliked this part of FFX, but for me, it was great to have control of my character's development- it lets the gamer decide which way to strengthen a character, which spells/attacks to learn first etc. I will admit, it was confusing at first.
Overall- a great game- well worth the price it will give you hours of game play!
