OKAY, setting up this game is hard AF to do. If you have no idea what you're doing, then it's frustrating. Then you have to wait a good few hours for it to download, depending on your download speed. Mine is 1.5MBs so it took roughly 5 hours.
1. Register your game in the playstation store.
2. insert disc and download game.
3. CREATE square enix account. It'll ask you for a one time password. SKIP IT.
4. DOWNLOAD APP (google play or itunes) "SQEX TOKEN."
5. LOGIN to your square enix account through "account management" and acquire a ONE TIME PASSWORD for APP.
You could also purchase a key ring, but its free to get the app.
7. register your square enix account in your SQEX TOKEN app.
8. NOW you can login to your square enix account from the playstation and use your one time password with the token and WAIT forever to play.
congrats you own a pretty awesome game.
i suggest looking at some game guides to help you start out.

It's Final Fantasy... but ONLINE! :D

I have never really gotten into MMORPGs. And I've TRIED! I played World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XI, and some other random MMORPGs. None of them have taken. None of them have kept my interest for a long term investment.

And then there's THIS one. I've only played it for a little over a month but it is super engaging. The main story is mostly single player focused (which probably helps keep my interest because I dislike being forced to play games with randos) and it enforces the idea that YOUR character is IMPORTANT and UNIQUE. The world is constantly populated by other players but you don't REALLY need to interact with them unless you decide to. There are minor events in game where you can fight the same enemies and participate in the same missions but they are low commitment. The only main story bits that you need to play with random internet players are the game's dungeons, pitting four players against a single goal. There are replayable, if you're into that sort of thing.

So, yeah, it's an MMORPG that you can pretty much solo beyond the game's Dungeons. If you WANT multiplayer activities, you can join Free Companies (Guilds?), chat groups, multiplayer arenas, and an auction house to sell your goods to other players. I've done the auction house and sold a lot of my crafted goods for some nice in game currency.

The game also features seasonal events based on various holidays from around the real world. I've played through three of these so far and they offer some fun diversions for some cool little rewards.

The game has a monthly charge after your first month of free play. But! You do NOT need to subscribe to Playstation Plus or whatever Sony's online service is called. So if this is the only game you're going to play online on the Playstation 4, you just need to Final Fantasy subscription.

The story is good, the characters are interesting, and your own sense of importance in an online game is secure. If you're into Final Fantasy, especially some of the earlier, classic games, this is a good fit. Highly recommended. Just remember to come of every so often and breathe. The online world'll be there waiting. ;)

I like the MMO genre

The first MMO i ever played was Dark Age of Camelot around 2000 - 2001. I then played WOW from release date to about 2007 (that game's high point in most people's opinion). I like the MMO genre, but couldn't get into any of the more recent games and WOW has become just way too dumbed down and easy anymore. Then i saw the stellar reviews for FFXIV's latest expansion and figured i would give the free trial of the game a shot.

In short, it is fantastic! It takes all the best things from the best MMOs of the past two decades and rolls them up into one amazingly fun package. The best part, you can actually play this game at a high level using a PS4 controller! That, in and of itself is a stunning achievement. The game looks great, runs well on PS4, there is plenty to do and (most importantly) it's really freaking fun!

Try the free trial before you buy. But i'm fairly certain it will only take you a few hours with the free trial before you realize you really like this game and want to buy it. I intend to max out the free trial by getting one of the classes to level 35 before activating the retail game and starting my 30 day free subscription.

You lose out on some of the bells and whistles when you do the free trial version. Namely, you can't communicate with other players and there is a limit to how much money (gil) you can have. Some may opt to just activate the retail version right away but for me it's fine to goof around on the free game while i figure everything out.
