Brief Story Synopsis:
So apparently at the end of FFXIV 1.0, the primal Bahamut is unleashed during this war that's going on and destroys almost everything. However thanks to the combined efforts of the people now known in ARR as the 'warriors of light', they were able to stop Bahamut from wiping out everything and save what little was left. FFXIV: ARR takes place 5 years after this event which comes to be known in ARR as the great Calamity. People are trying to work together to rebuild Eorzea back to its former glory. You are supposedly an adventurer who was there at the Calamity 5 years ago but you don't remember any of it. In fact, no one remembers anything about those warriors of light from 5 years ago other than the fact that they exist. In this game, you are simply an adventurer who wishes to well...adventure. During your adventure you begin to find out more about what happened 5 years ago and the people involved. That's the story more or less. Feel free to correct or clarify anything I've said or left out in the comments.
I feel that this game is great for people who prefer to solo or group in parties. For the soloer, whenever you need to do a quest dungeon that requires a party, you can use the duty finder tool which will group you up with other people and put you in a dungeon.Read more ›
The game is basically fantastic, and great for players of almost any type.
First, my perspective. I am an old Halo and Call of Duty player, also played pencil and paper RPGs (D&D obviously, Pathfinder, etc.), super into interactive fiction, and also recently started playing an interesting online MUD again after many years away. So I am pretty close to "hardcore" gamer, although I don't personally like the term. FFXIV is the perfect thing for me. It gives a broad spectrum of content that is appealing on many levels: great storyline (partially voiceover acted, lots of deliciously written text), awesome battle mechanics, many classes and jobs to choose from (which you can switch between and even mix abilities from on one character!) to customize your play style, epic dungeons and boss fights, optional daily quests, huge variety of equipment and mounts, cosmetic items (not for sale, available in-game only [I think]), and so much more than I even know of at this point.
My wife, who also plays with me, commented that she thinks her mother would like this game and get really into it. She is very into hidden object and other more "casual" games, so that should give you an idea of the broad appeal the game has. That said, if you are a hardcore MMORPG player and looking for something new (but somehow aren't already playing this) I highly recommend it.
Lest I forget, one of the biggest reasons I love this game so far is that the community is basically fantastic. On my very first day a complete stranger ran up to me in the starting city and offered to give me a free pet.Read more ›
Epic Storyline; everywhere you look theres a story and as you play the game you build up your very own.
Graphics are gorgeous; Final Fantasy XIII may have had the best visuals in the series so far, and XV may have the very best overall. But this game has visuals you would not believe until you saw for yourself, I would implore you that as you game, take a look around and ponder the wonders this game has to offer.
Job System; my first question was where do I start? And the game will more than compensate you once you level up your starting job. Obtaining and changing into other jobs requires time and patients, but it's worth it! And even if you dont have the job you want you can strive for another one!
There is no limit to what you can explore!
Look at everything and make friends! I realize this is what true mmos are about, a great community and a very fun rpg!
When you get an activation code for ps4 version make sure you register it on PS network, NOT mogstation. I had this trouble for days and it pissed me off. Mog station will allow you to transfer characters or register Windows or Mac but you can't register ps4 on mog station.Read more ›
