In this final installment, the story is finally told from Lottie's POV. We get to hear how she felt during her resurrection. How she awoke with both sets of memories and felt like she died anyways because she wouldn't get to be with the man she loves more than anything. For two years, she mourned the loss of Dietrich, and then one chance encounter turns her entire story around.
In this third installment, Lottie and Dietrich have their first child, a daughter named Emma, and they have been planning an insurrection for the past year to wipe out the business that is killing humans to steal their bodies for profit. Lottie's firsthand knowledge allows her to join the mission at Dietrich's side and they leave their daughter with Eric's oldest sister for safekeeping so that they can finally put an end to this company and live their lives in peace.
They have been going around the world and destroying portals and capturing enemies to learn more about this shady business. They have taken out many of the key players, but there still some major players left that are continuing to hunt Lottie and her friends and family. They discover a device that locates the portals. The also discover a decoder that plays back the data that is stored in the devices. Unfortunately they also come across some alien technology that allows their enemies to disappear and another horrible piece of technology that renders humans completely paralyzed.
Lottie struggles with the torture that is used to extract their enemies secrets. She also struggles with those she loves getting hurt or killed as part of this mission and that makes her take some reckless actions a few times too many. She seems to take every casualty personally and has a difficult time, even though she knows what they are doing is right in the end and protecting more innocent lives.
There are several show downs between the bad aliens and the CIA task force assigned with eradicating them from Earth. I won't go into each and every plot point but the story is definitely riveting from the start!
I liked that this series was unlike anything else I've ever read. At first, I was able to draw a few similarities between Stephenie Meyer's The Host. But as I continued reading this story, it really is a class all it's own. Awesome writing power!!!
