From the Back Cover
When Leo and Naomi are drafted, along with twenty-two of the world’s brightest teenagers, into the International Space Training Camp, their lives are forever changed. Overnight, they become global celebrities in contention for one of the six slots to travel to Europa—Jupiter’s moon—and establish a new colony, leaving their planet forever. With Earth irreparably damaged, the future of the human race rests on their shoulders.
For Leo, an Italian championship swimmer, this kind of purpose is a reason to go on after losing his family. But Naomi, an Iranian-American science genius, is suspicious of the ISTC and the fact that a similar mission failed under mysterious circumstances, killing the astronauts onboard. She fears something equally sinister awaiting the Final Six beneath Europa’s surface.
In this cutthroat atmosphere, surrounded by strangers from around the world, Naomi finds an unexpected friend in Leo. As the training tests their limits, Naomi and Leo’s relationship deepens with each life-altering experience they encounter. But it’s only when the finalists become fewer and their destinies grow nearer that the two can fathom the full weight of everything at stake: the world, the stars, and their lives.

Twenty-Four teenagers are selected for their advanced skills and mental abilities. They are brought together to the Johnson Space center near NASA to undergo a month of intense and vigorous astronaut training, mental and physical testing, and to experience simulators that mimic the environment of not only the rocket they will launch in, but of the spaceship they will explore the galaxies in. Teams will work together in mock environments of Jupiter’s harsh icy terrain, most of which will be under the frozen sea. Half way through this strenuous training, twelve competitors will be eliminated, six more a week before the launch. This story gives “survival of the fittest” a whole new meaning.
Alexandra Monir’s exhilarating new Young Adult sci-fi novel is a high-octane rollercoaster ride depicting the competition and chance of a life time for six lucky teens to perform at their highest peak. The grand prize being a one way ticket to the stars. The atmosphere of this fast paced page turner is that of the high stress Olympic contestants experience when trying to win a gold medal. These 24 kids undergo incredible duress both physical and mental, some egos run high, sabotage and secret missions of infiltration involve threats of murder and imprisonment to those attempting to oust out the weak. When two kids are shockingly eliminated, horrifying events cause alarm and fear. As things go seriously wrong, some believe they are in danger and risks are run to uncover the truth even under threat of death!
Devouring this novel in two sittings, I was absolutely riveted. The author has great talent in developing wonderful characters full of depth, and knows how to keep her readers continually anxious as to just what will happen next! Her writing style is smooth, the story flows well, and is detailed with a great amount of scientific research that is easy to grasp. Readers will be on the edge of their seats reading intense scenes of peer pressure rivalry, cool astrophysics and new technology, as well as exciting thrill-ride space race training exercises that the chosen six must endure. Unputdownable, The Final Six offers up a plate of mystery, romance, action, espionage, and a crumbling dystopian world! It’s sure to be a winner and I will be impatiently waiting for the sequel! Five Stars without blinking!
If you're looking for a fast-paced linear suspense novel, I highly recommend this book. Alexandra Monir is someone I will definitely be reading more from in the near future.
There are two POVs and I really like how it was written. The two perspectives gave a bigger perspective to the motion of the book and how they reacted to the same situation differently.
I think if I had to pick a favorite it would be Naomi. She’s weary of the whole process, but once she arrives in Houston she doesn’t lose a minute trying to get to the bottom of things. I admire her gumption and how she trusted herself despite the numerous people against her.
My favorite thing about Leo was how supporting he was. It was something to see him recognize Naomi’s strength and knowing that the best way to be friends with her was to help her.
There was a lovely cast of supporting characters too! I loved Asher. He was a pilot from Israel, and he was awesome all around. Because all of the characters come from different countries there was a given diversity to the book as a whole. I like how it wasn’t something that was forced, and I love how it wasn’t the point of the book.
The plot as a whole was great. It was so fast paced, and I felt like there was always something to put you on edge. I can’t believe the time in the book was so fast. It made things in the real world seem so slow! I loved the scientific aspect of the book too. I wonder how much research Monir did for this book.
Overall, I highly recommend this book to people who are looking for an adventure or someone who loves sci-fi.
