About the Author

The eldest of the three Bront? sisters, Charlotte is best known for her novel Jane Eyre, which was published under the pseudonym Currer Bell. Bront? s works were revolutionary for their time, reflecting a truthfulness about love and relationships that was not common in Victorian-era England. While Jane Eyre was, and continues to be, her most popular work, Charlotte Bront? published numerous works during her short life, including juvenilia, poetry, and the novels Shirley and Villette. Charlotte Bront? died in 1855, outliving both of her sisters, Anne and Emily. Collectively, the Bront? sisters novels are considered literary standards that continue to influence modern writers.

This edition provides helpful information that "sets the stage" for the novel, with information about Charlotte and the other Brontes. The information helps to put this novel and her work in general into perspective, especially if you like British works from that era. And as for the novel itself - it's a wonderful counterpoint to some of the other works written around the same time. It's a wonderful read for rainy days when you can allow herself to "fall into" this world that seems so different from modern times and yet still speaks volumes about the value each life has and the right each individual has to love and be loved.

Yes, Jane Eyre is a classic, and it's worth the effort if you haven't read it! A good view into the way society worked in a different time. It's a little difficult to read, though the Kindle version has lots of notes and explanations (sometimes too many) on some of the uncommon words, translations of French sentences, and even explanations of where a word or phrase comes from or what it references. However, there's always at least a few errors in a Kindle book, and this one is no exception. Nothing that changes or damages the story, but the errors are there. And if you're like me, I notice them when I find them and it annoys me. But like I said, not a deal breaker at all. This is a good (though long) story, I enjoyed the character development, and there is interesting commentary on society, which adds interest. I had not read this in high school or college, so I'm glad I read it now!

These types of books are best when there is not a lot of extraneous words.

The author sticks to the point, tells you about the option and gives you a link to get there.

Nice compilation and very quick read.

I love annotated books, especially ones that are old and of English culture. However, half of the time I use the annotations, the book will not let me go back to the page I was reading. I often have to commit the page number to memory so I can go back to it manually. The first few times this happened it took me 5 minutes to find my page... annoying.

For some reason, I never got around to reading "Jane Eyre" when I was younger. Now that I have a Kindle and the opportunity to read great classics for free, or a very small price, I am taking advantage of it!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and this annotated Kindle version was great -- much interesting information about the Brontes, very helpful footnotes, etc. I found a few minor "typos," but other than this, no complaints. I highly recommend it!

In this short yet packed-filled book you will be delighted to find ways to obtain free Christian books online as well as be able to read them without a kindle or nook. You will be informed on where to download free apps for your computer.
I also subscribed to Shelley Hitz's e- mail notification and this opened up a wealth of resources to me that I otherwise would not have discovered. Imagine the work being done behind the scenes and landing in your e- mail with just a click away to another book!
Seven places will be shared on where you can find free Christian books online. The author has simplified the process for what appears to be people like myself, in that I am not very tech savvy. Below each section she encourages you to explore as she provides direct links that will take the guess work out of navigation. This book download will remain in my library for future return to sites of interest. To any avid reader, it will open up a storehouse of treasures that otherwise would have never been accessed.
Her book, like her website, is information you do not want to miss out on. I have encouraged others to also sign up for her e-mail notifications as this is too good to keep secret. A short book, yet a worthwhile 5-star rating I give it.

Well Worth the Time!

I was hesitant to read such a long classic, but I immediately was drawn into the desperate life of the main character. Bronte writes to the reader personally, which involves the reader quickly. The annotated version was very helpful and interesting. I enjoyed learning about Charlotte Bronte's actual life and how much it paralleled the life of the character, Jane Eyre. It is well worth the time you put into it. And the price from Amazon was a real bargain!!
