So, I bought this book (that's the least of what you can say it is) after I read an article my sister posted about it on Facebook. I started it yesterday morning and finished it this evening. That is no small feat when you have 4 kids and a husband plus going through all the embedded websites, photos, videos, phone numbers to call and much more. I guess I'm trying to say that I was totally hooked. When I originally started reading it I was just excited about the idea of being able to interact with the character in my book. I'm an obsessive reader and look for any chance to get lost in a book (I read while waiting in line at a dive thru or stopped at a red light). If anyone is like me this is the ultimate in being able to become part of the story. Not only do you feel like you are invested in the main character Mags just by reading her story but you are part of her life as you help her find this mystery man that may be her destiny by going through the websites for clues and watching the videos he leaves. Let me be clear though...this isn't just another cheesy romance book. It's written in a way that the generation before me, my generation, and the one after me can totally relate to and there is such a bigger message as you go on in the book than just trying to find Mr. Right (or Mr. WTF). I honestly can't say enough about the experience of reading this and the feeling of being involved in the book. All avid readers know that feeling of being sad when a book is done and feeling like you lost a friend even though you read it as fast as you could to get to the end. Well, imagine actually being involved in it and going on her journey with her by looking at the websites she's looking at, watching the videos she's watching, or calling the phone numbers she had to call. All I can say is I hope Hillary continues in this direction and we see many more books like this. If I knew there were going to be more books like this I would upgrade to a Kindle Fire. I sat between reading off the Kindle Paperwhite and my laptop so I could look at all the websites and videos. Don't take that as a discouragement to read the book though. It just shows how committed I became to it. You can read the read the book without all the websites and videos because Hillary made sure to still describe what is on the web pages and translate the videos. The Paperwhite also still has the pictures she wanted included in the story. I've read 219 books since I got my newest Kindle a year and a half ago and have written 3 reviews about a book. Translation...it was worth the time to read it and show my appreciation for it!
Find Me I'm Yours is going down as one of my favorite reads of this year! OMG this book was everything to me. It's completely interactive, giving us the opportunity to go on a " treasure hunt " to help the character find a guy in search for his true love. You click through websites, photos, (THE MAIN CHARACTER HAS AN REAL INSTAGRAM !!) and you can even take polls, and call numbers to listen to characters in the story. I sadly underestimated this book. I assumed it'll be one of those projects where the concept was better than the story, but boy was I wrong. The story was so cute and cliche, (in a good way) and it was just the book I needed to read for Swoonuary. Mags, a struggling artist living in LA, was so funny guys. She was weird, and dorky, and just one of those characters where you think, " I can definitely chill with this chick in real life. " I truly appreciate how much thought the author put into this book, I mean it clearly was alot of hard work, and . . . just pick this up yall. I just . . . I adore this book to pieces.
So I'm a long-time fan of Hillary Carlip's writing, and just her mind in general, because her past books have always taken me somewhere new. I must say that I was NOT prepared for this one, though. For starters, I think we're going to have to come up with some new words for "book" and "reading," because this ebook is something else altogether. It takes you on a journey, a real journey. The art on the linked websites stands on its own merit; the sense of place of lesser-known areas of LA and environs is spot-on, and although I've "finished" the book, I'll be going back to revisit the websites. (See what I mean about calling it "reading?") It's a trip, this "book." And P.S., I'm way past the target audience age for this, loved it anyway.
Hilarious, heart-full, entertaining, and lessons learned. I didn't know what to expect, but being able to see pictures, click on real sites and watch videos. This was definitely not a traditional way of writing a story and took some getting used to. The beginning was boring for me, the pictures were uninteresting, the grammar irked me to no end, and Maggie was irritating. Thankfully the chapters in the beginning were short and finally when we begin the treasure hunt the story picks up and becomes interesting and ridiculously funny...I was literally belly-laughing at some parts. I thought it would revolve around Maggie and finding love, which it does, but it has substance. Meaning, yes Maggie is out to find her soulmate, but also along the way before she ever even meets him she was able to piece herself back together. I could relate to her in how she is always thinking how something bad will happen to her, which it does, oh boy it does! Lesson I relearned from this book is that you have have to think positive, work damn hard to push through, and don't give up. I love how simply Maggie put its, "How could I give up on life when there were so many options?"
This was a SUPER FUN read about a girl looking for love. It’s an interactive treasure hunt, and what I loved most about it is that every single time I thought for a second, hmmm, I wonder what that person looks like, or what that thing is, or that place is, there is a pic, a website, and even a video so that a lot of the most vivid details come to life! The websites are so well integrated – they didn’t interrupt the read at all, just took me deeper. And if I didn’t want to put down the book, I just went and looked at some of the sites later and they were just as satisfying! There’s still plenty of room for your imagination. All in all, a great read and a really fun, creative book unlike anything I’ve ever read before. Worth it for that alone!!!!!!!!
