This is the first book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed the writing and storyline. I understand this is the second book in a series, but it is definitely a stand-alone book. I enjoyed this one so much that I plan to read the first one!
I loved how Ms. Collins portrayed Jayla's recovery from her former partner's abuse. There are very real emotions there, and very real reactions. But what I loved most about the book was the back and forth between Jalya and Alistair. All too often, love after abuse stories end up with the abused party simply falling for the love interest without a lot of...resistance. While that does happen in real life (after you've been abused, sometimes the first person to treat you halfway decently seems like the perfect person), it's more realistic to me to have the abused party be a little gun-shy. The banter between the two of them was entertaining, and I loved seeing Jayla's backbone, even through her underlying fears.
Alistair is incredibly sexy, of course, and if I had a complaint about this book it's that especially in the beginning, he comes across as a bit too perfect. But then again, this is a romance novel, after all. And we all want our love interests to be amazing, right?
Add in hot sex and some BDSM, and this story has just about everything I look for in a suspenseful romance.
Overall, I'd rate this as 4.5 stars, only because there was a little bit of slowdown in the narrative in a few places, but I can enthusiastically recommend this book and I will look for more from Jessica Collins.
Now, usually when author said retelling of a fairy tale, its usually have tons of sex and sex and more sex without feelings or characters to die for. But Jessica Collins give me more.
Retelling from Alladin, the author give me story of love, passion, lust, evil, and finally finding your self. Allistair and Jayla story will hooked you from the first page.
I love how the author bring out Allistair and Jayla to live.
The dirty talker yet sweet Al. Dominant and firm yet so sincere and love her so fierce. The ever so hot yet will do anything just to see his woman smile or cried out his name in the throw passion moments😉😁
And Jayla. This women, i love her strong yet vulnerable. How she have survive her abusive past. How she found her self in her submissive role. How her spicy attitude yet so sweet and child like heart.
Yes, there's BDSM dash in this book. Although light ones. When i feel like its gonna be another lame borring BDSM books, the author took me by suprise.
She put weight more in the feelings. How BDSM put Jayla in more free self while being a sub. How she finally find her self. How she find she can really trust Allistair with her heart.
And Allistair...ehm i love his dominant yet gentle firm love. I love how he is not perfect. He is so unperfect, Al feels real.
No worries. There are still cane, bondage and safe words. But the fact the author put more weight on the feels rather than the act it self, me love!
And the sex scenes? 🔥🔥🔥🔥
That scene on his bike and his there to watch her very first orgasm on dry hump! Its definitly new and eyes popping moment!
And the massage scene...oh mya i need my own Allistair!
In the end, i love this book cause in the end Jayla confront his old demon.
In this book, Jayla finds herself running from an abusive spouse after he almost killed her. She applies for a position at a club when she arrives in New Youk City. This man Alistair is the complete opposite of her husband and she finds herself falling for him. Will the love they have for one another survive the storm when her ex Jeffrey finds her? You must read to find out.
Mrs. Collins writes characters that are well developed, a plot that will keep you enthralled, and imagery that is so vivid you can actually place yourself in the scene. This book has all the “feels”, and Jessica has outdone herself. A must read!
One of the first things that hooked me on this book is the banter between the characters. I feel like soooo many authors write super serious characters and forget about the lighter side of life. Having healthy, witty banter between characters is something that I absolutely love in a novel. Jessica does a fantastic job of weaving in the proper amount without it seeming cheesy or over the top.
Now, let's talk more about the two lead characters. The steam is off the charts! Every scene is amazing and well written. I admire the way the fairy tale we all know and love is featured in this story via the names and personalities of the characters. It gives the story depth and you wonder which way the story will go next. I seriously love this power couple of Jayla and Al!!
While Jayla's past is extremely traumatic she doesn't let it define her. She has taken steps to become stronger than that which has happened to her. I admire her drive and love that her strength is illustrated in such a profound manner during the most climatic scene in the book. She is a role model of not letting situations define you and that you can be your own hero if you need to be.
Overall this story is AMAZING!! I highly recommend it and loved every sentence!!!
