If you have not read any of Christa's wonderful stories I hope you will do so. You will Not be disappointed.
Nicholas' grandfather hadn't seen or heard from his brother in 20 years, but when the discovery of human bones in the field his grandson just bought brings back old memories, he's afraid Angelo might have had something to do with it. But what exactly happened? And more importantly, where is Angelo? He visited relatives in New York 20 years ago, but no one stateside had heard from him since.
Sofia is heading back to Italy anyway to visit her family there. She and Nicholas decide to stop over in New York as a sort of honeymoon but visit the relatives too and see if they could find out any more about Angelo. They find that his last location was Italy, and Sofia gets the hairbrained idea to try to find him while she's there.
She has no idea what she's getting into though. She finds herself being followed, and leads that seem to point to Angelo lead her to other secrets she can't even imagine. By the time it's all over, she's lucky if she even gets back to California.
This was a suspenseful read that kept me going until I finished the whole thing. Not too long, but fast-paced enough to keep me wondering what would happen next and not wanting to stop until I found out.
One of the author’s strengths is creating a real feel for the different locales. As this book takes the reader from California to Chicago to New York to Italy, I felt like I was along for the ride. In Italy, where the story really picks up speed, I especially enjoyed the suspense and intrigue because I was able to visualize the characters and their adventures.
This is a terrific story, great characters, and I look forward to reading the next in the series.
