About the Author
Teresa is also a visual artist, and she believes that appreciating and creating art are therapeutic activities. Teresa uses her art in her mental health practice, and she has also always explored alternative methods of healing. Teresa is fascinated by resilience, forgiveness, and balance, and while exploring these issues, she discovered her passion for the chakra system. She has an active chakra healing practice, which includes workshops, individual counselling, and speaking engagements.
Family is very important to Teresa, and she finds balance by spending quality time with her husband, her adult children, and her dog and walking buddy, Luna. Teresa believes that forgiveness, of others and of ourselves, is both an art and a necessary ingredient in finding balance and peace.

Finding Balance and Forgiveness Through Chakras and Art is more than just a traditional self-help book or dry and bland guide to Chakras filled with useless facts that are meaningless. Teresa uses her own life stories to make the information relevant to readers. As you read through her book you get relevant real-life examples of how each Chakra was out of balance in herself or someone she worked with. She explains how this imbalance impacts the persons health both physically and mentally. One of the ways to balance the chakra’s that Teresa promotes is through art in all forms. Depending on what is out of line, she may suggest performing arts and drama, writing poetry or journaling, working with clay or painting. She spends a lot of time explaining why each art form is good for balancing each area.
The book has easy to follow tables for each Chakra to explain, where it is, what element in life resonates with it, different elements like stones, crystals, sounds that will help. There are identifying factors to determine if you have a blocked/deficient or excess of energy in that Chakra. Following this are yoga poses to help with the healing process. They are explained in step by step detail that even the novice can understand and include black silhouettes of the poses. I personally prefer this method opposed to actually photos of people in the poses because that distracts me. I like the simplistic approach and it makes it more approachable as someone that doesn’t have the “perfect yoga body.”
This is a good introduction without being overwhelming to those new to Chakras. The personal touch of tying things back to her own life and experiences makes it relatable and more open to accepting the information than if it was just presented in fact-based book. The other key benefit I found from this book is that it is not presented as a quick fix for all that ails you in life. Teresa emphasizes that this is not a replacement for medical intervention in some cases, but it is an added support to help heal the whole body. Through her own journey she expresses that this process takes time and you shouldn’t expect it all to happen quickly, it is a process, one you have to keep revaluating and tweaking as your body and mind grow and change.
I really like the balance this book had in personal stories, factual information, and exercises and examples for the reader. These pieces fit together really well in the book so that I felt I had a well-rounded understanding of the topic and how I could enter it into my own life. The occasional charts, pictures, and diagrams were also very helpful to my understanding of the subjects throughout the book. I especially liked the section that explained yoga possess relating to each Chakra and the history of Chakras, especially in the introduction.
Overall the book is well organized and well written. It is a fairly easy read as the tone is casual but there is a lot of great information presented in numerous ways. This book does not just tell you about the system, but really explains how you can start actively putting the system into your life. If you have any interest in Chakras or are simply looking for new ways to bring balance into the way you live, then I would definitely recommend reading this book.
