Fiona is one busy mom. With two teens and interests of her own, she's constantly on the run. Her husband isn't any different. But when he suddenly goes missing, she's embarrassed to admit that she first noticed it three days after he disappeared. Her whole life falls into question as the mystery behind his disappearance unfolds.
Emotions tug in all direction in this read. As a mother, it was easy to find a bit of myself in Fiona. As the reality of her life reveals secret after secret, it's hard not to feel for her and realize how easily such a situation could occur. Luckily, she's not alone in this as friendship also comes into play, making this a tale with just the right amount of subplots and depth. There are moments when the heart breaks, moments to laugh, characters to make the blood boil and tenderness along with laughs. In other words, it's a great read to cuddle up with and sink into from beginning to end.
The characters are great, I loved the mystery, drama from her friends, the twists and turns the author gives. Secrets are just that until you tell someone else and they always come out most of the time when you do not expect it leaving you world turned upside down. This is a very emotional read with your feelings all over the place first you are low and then high laughing then you get a twist your repeating all the mixed feelings again. I really enjoyed the plot and story it is really different from I am use to from this author. I really like the change and hope to see more of this type of writing from her.
Welcome to the true story of many working parents with teenagers and way too much to do in their lives that...well they lose each other. Donna Fasano held up a mirror to this life and just like the story it was 'hurtful' in spots. But rich in description, plotting, characterizations and feelings.
As a reader, a parent, and a working mother - so much of this story hit me in the gut that I flinched numerous times. I'm a faithful reader of all Donna's books and I will admit this was a departure but beautifully written and quite the 'thinking woman's' story.
I LOVED Di...perhaps because my BFF is named Di and has many of the characterizations...with the exception of the big secret.
I LOVED FIONA ... a totally real person that just had my heart in her hands as this story continued.
I will admit the ending startled me and seemed to come too quickly but...perhaps this is not the ending but the start of something new?
I hope that Donna will continue Fiona's story because it's an important one...
This book does move forward. The story takes place over about three months. It does not have pages of should I or shouldn't i. I particularly loved the trip to the beach. The pain and subsequent release was worth cheering. There was only one question that wasn't answered....when would Stanley come home on his own.
Fiona friend Di added a secondary story that was also a life changing event
