Editorial Reviews

Review

"A great debut novel that has a little bit of everything that I love in my romance novels ~ sweet, angsty, sassy, and a hot ass rocker! I can't wait to see what Bishop brings us next." -Erin Noelle, USA Today Bestselling Author

"Finding Flynn was a sweet, slightly sexy, romantic read. I loved the pacing of Ashtyn and Flynn's relationship--it was perfectly appropriate for their ages. The rest of the band members are great characters too--Jax, Hudson, and Jude are like brothers to Flynn; they're his chosen family. Add in the craziness of Chloe, Ashtyn's best friend, and it's an instant party." -Give Me Books Book Blog

"Oh, the pain and angst of young love! Finding Flynn brought back all of my youthful insecurities and forehead thumping moments, in a much steamier package than my high school ever offered. I highly recommend this YA debut!" -CM Foss, USA Today Bestselling Author

"Alexandria Bishop delivers a wonderfully dramatic and angsty young adult romance that will have you wondering where you can find your own Flynn.  A wonderful debut novel for this beautiful author." -Meghan Quinn, Author of the Bourbon Series

***I received this book as a gift

Finding Flynn is a sexy, sizzling read full of tantalizing moments, laughs, and heartache.

PROS:
Flynn is a HOT, flirty tease. Between his gorgeous green eyes, rock star persona, and giant heart, he’s a total knockout. Absolutely swoon worthy. Just like an Abbi Glines character ;) (if you’ve read the book you’ll get this). The way he makes Ashtyn blush is glorious. He teases and says the sweetest, sinful things. Sigh. His inner demons are heartbreaking and scarring. His relationship with his father, the sadness over his mother all make him complex and deeply emotional even if he keeps it all inside.

The ending is an explosive sucker punch of emotional chaos. Seriously. Heart-stopping, hold-your-breath crazy shock. Talk about an adrenaline rush.

Ashtyn and Flynn are scorching together. They have a magnetic ease that is part dirty talk, embarrassment, and crazy attraction. They get each other. Through their mutual love of music and willingness to confide in each other, they’re therapeutic and perfect for each other.

CONS:
Ashtyn’s character is a little underdeveloped. I found myself struggling to get to know her. Apart from her obsession with All Time Low and anger at her situation, her likes and dislikes, her passions are all hazy and rarely mentioned.

Flynn and Ashtyn fall hard and fast. Literally in a day and the book takes place over summer. While it does fall into a sweet, sexy summer romance, the intensity of their feelings is sudden and strange. There’s hardly any build up and while their moments are adorable, it’s borderline instalove with a hint of drama.

Okay... So..... I need to be upfront and honest here.. Normally I hate, hate, hate, Insta love books, I hate them, we all know Insta love is annoying.. Yes you know it's true don't lie!! Lol... Any who as I was reading this book, first thing I say to myself is ugh looks like Insta love, I hope I can gag this one down, and I have to be honest with y'all, this was Insta love, however it was written so well it didn't seem like a typical Insta love book because it wasn't!!! I loved every minute in this book, when I had to put it down I was thinking what happened? Anywho, this book is about Ash and Flynn, sexy name right? Yea I know, any who ash has to go to Oregon with her mom for her summer break, which she dubs the summer from he!!... That is until she walks into the pub and hears Flynn singing a song from her favorite band, when he's done singing he runs to the bar to make drinks, he spots her and it all goes up hill and down hill from there... What happens when she finds out he's lied to her? Can she forgive him? Do they get an HEA? Did I mention he's a rockstar? Oh yea he's trying to get a record deal, does he get it and leave her? So many questions.. But read the book to get the answers :) I must admit, I've never heard of this author before, I can't even tell you how I came across her book, but I read the blurb and thought, meh sounds good enough, I'll try it... Let me tell you it was more than good enough, it was fantastic!!! It's defiantly a must read :) happy reading :)

I find it hard to believe that this is a first novel. It captured me right from the start, and hasn't let go of me yet! Ashtyn and Flynn found each other just when they needed each other the most. Ash thinks her family is going to have the vacation of a lifetime - that is, until she and her Mom arrive in Oregon, and her Mom tells her that her Dad and sister won't be joining them and, by the way, they're getting a divorce. That was a really dumb way to handle that, no? Her Mom has started a new job up in Oregon, opening a brand new recording studio. Her Dad refused to relocate and is staying in California with her younger sister, who's heavily involved in gymnastics. Neither one of the adults talked to their children about these drastic changes in their lives. You can see how hurt and confused Ash must have been when she met Flynn for the first time that night. Happenstance sometimes works out well - and I have to admit that this was the perfect time for her to meet someone interesting like Flynn. She wandered into a pub and bought a burger and a Shirley Temple, and he happened to be playing his guitar and singing. He was good enough that he took her mind off of her problems - especially when he went back to tending bar, and started talking to her. They just clicked. And reading it yourself, you can see them bonding and smile as they sort of take care of one another. We meet his band and her best friend who's visiting, and every character just adds to the story. Their romance has an unexpected sweetness, which makes even the sad things easier to bear. The book is free on Amazon right now, so I hope you'll try it for yourself. It's a sad subject, but I promise you'll be surprised by the happy ending. I'm still smiling!

I enjoyed the band storyline a LOT and I'm really looking forward to reading the next book. Honestly, the next storyline (from what it sounds like) piques my interest even more than this one. However, there were points at which this book was a little difficult to read. There was a lot of talk about the deep feelings the main characters had for each other, but I would have liked to see more of them actually being together. It seems like they spent a lot of time apart, which isn't really my expectation when picking up a romance story. The descriptions of heat and passion got pretty steamy at points, but then they were followed by a lot of rambling by the main female character (which I guess makes sense, but that space could have been taken up by something more interesting). Suggestions for the second book include not cutting time on editing (editing is very important! And I'm working on my own second book right now... believe me! It's the same for every book!), focusing more on the time spent with the two main characters, and developing the hell out of that band storyline, because it is EPIC. Bravo, and I look forward to seeing more from you. Overall Grade: A-
