Review

This writing duo was new to me, and this was actually a wonderful read. I know that makes it sounds like I was surprised, but I guess I was. I've come to expect a certain formula in romance books, especially ones that are re-written fanfiction stories. This story completely bucked the system and followed it's own rules. Sheridan 'Dani' Reed is feeling adrift. After months of feeling less then thrilled with her long term boyfriend, Dani loses her job, sending her to Louisiana to do some freelance work with for her best friend. While visiting the Landry plantation, Dani reconnects with the values from her past while getting to know the incredible Micah Landry and his family. When we first meet Micah, I was really sure that I was going to hate him. Dani and Micah's first run-in did not paint him in a very good light. I have to give the authors props for completely changing my mind about him. He is incredibly sweet and funny. Once he sets his eyes on Dani, he makes it his mission to have her. But what is he going to do about that pesky boyfriend back in New York City? Dani has no family left, a fact that comes into glaring focus after spending time with the Landry's. They laugh, tease, torture, and look out for each other and Dani finds herself being included. The lost feeling that had been hounding her in New York City disappears amidst the acceptance and love she finds down in French Settlement, Louisiana. Dani and Micah slide into a relationship that develops so organically. I love how natural it feels. There is nothing rushed about it, even though it does happen in a relatively short amount of time. I am grateful for the opportunity to read this story and to tell others about it. 5 out of 5 stars --Lori Wilt - Ficwishes Book Blog

Finding Focus is a charming debut from the duo known as Jiffy Kate. I loved the writing, the southern references and the slow burn of two people reaching out and falling in love. Micah’s growth is lovely to read, and Dani’s slow acceptance of what she truly needs, rather than what she has been told she needs was great. I loved the character Annie and her warmth, and the feistiness of BFF Piper, and the brotherly fun with Deacon. Looking forward to more from this team!

I truly enjoyed this one. I could not put it down and devoured it in a day. I loved that it was lighthearted and fun to read. It made me want to visit the southern part of my country, to see the sights they so charmingly wrote about. The food they spoke of, made me hungry. The characters were wonderful. I loved how welcoming each and every person was in the book, especially with Dani. The pace was great as well, as it didn't move too quickly, nor too slowly. Very good read. Thank you ladies. ~ChristyWIX

The focus of the story is on Dani. She had been experiencing a slump for a while in her career and her relationship with her boyfriend. Moreover, she felt alone as she lost her grandma who was her closest relative and her best friend had moved away. An assignment to feature a plantation home in the South brought back her creativity and also ignited a longing for a guy. I liked the story as the authors painted a vivid picture of the food, scenery and the warmth/friendliness of the South. However, I did not really care for the main characters, Dani and Micah. Micah kept repeating how perfect, amazing and strong Dani was whom I did not really think was anyone outstanding. She had curveballs thrown to her in her life but like most people, she learned to navigate with the support of friends.

Easy to read and the world the writer(s) built was vivid and realistic.

The intent of this review isn't to tell you what the story is about. It's to let you know what you might like about this book.

I recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun sweet love story. Micah is everything you want in a bad boy turned love struck hero. It reminds me of a Jill Shalvis novel but with more cursing and more detailed sex scenes.

Dani as a protagonist is smart and strong. Nothing annoyed me about her which, for some romantic novels, is hard to come by.

There's a few well written steamy sexy moments that will make you fan yourself.

The cons, I would have liked a more fleshed out supporting characters. Deeper storylines for them.

Also, the love story could have wrapped up sooner. We knew both Dani and Micah liked each other because of the duel POV. Because of this, I felt like the ending dragged out a bit. It makes me wonder if it might have been better in a single POV because there's mystery and suspense there. You wouldn't know if Micah had the same feelings until he actually said so. As much as I loved seeing the world through his eyes, the book didn't actually need his side of things, in my opinion.

That aside, it's an fast read. Fun. Steamy. Sweet.

When I finished reading "Finding Focus" by Jiffy Kate, I was left with an aching hum through my soul. A bit dramatic, right? Well you try grasping the truth that your new favorite book just ended. And there are several reasons why this book just jumped to number 1 in my heart.

The story is quite well written. It is smooth, eloquent, and it flows from scene to scene with ease. There's details that have you capturing the image in your mind, finding your own focus in this Louisiana tale. Also, the characters were easy to fall in love with from each description.

Dani and Micah are not your quintessential starring couple. Dani is not the weak woman looking for a man to rescue her. She has had a few bumps in her road of life, but she is smart, witty, kind, and feisty. She has a passion for photography and for cooking. She is not without her faults, but they are real faults that you or I may have as well. Then there is Micah, my new book boyfriend. He's that southern boy dipped in hotness, wrapped in sass, and sprinkled with charm. He has a past that creeps up from time to time, but it doesn't stop him from getting what he wants. Their romance is quite the slow burn, but I could not have wanted it any other way. By the end, their love has turned all the negative to ash and the good starts sprouting through.

No story is great without its supporting characters. This story has plenty! From the woman who birthed Micah in all her Queen of the South Mamabear Majesty to the best friend that keeps Dani focused and loved, these people won me over with their first lines. It felt just like home should be. My personal favorite is Deacon, brother of our leading man. He is a dimpled sweetie with that Landry charm to boot. I could gobble him up with several biscuits.

Finding Focus is the perfect feel good love story. I never thought I'd find a southern playboy appealing, but Micah is so dreamy [heart eye emoji]. He's not the typical, cocky, I'll-conquer-anything-with-two-legs type of guy, which is why I liked him so much. He's smart and business savvy and puts his family first. He just likes having a little fun on the side.

Dani is one of those characters that I can relate to, even if our lives aren't the same at all. She's in a relationship that isn't that healthy (who hasn't?). She's struggling with her career and finding the passion for her work (who hasn't?). And having lost close family members, being a transplant to the big city, and having her BFF living across the country, she feels alone (who hasn't?)

I loved witnessing these two fall in love. And this book is funny! I LOL'd out loud a few times. These girls got jokes.

Also, I love the way they painted the picture of the south. I've never been there, but now I want to go!

If you're reading this review because you're trying to decide whether or not to buy the book, just do it. You won't regret it.
