This is one frustrating Hot Romance novel, boys and girls.

Very frustrating.

And I don’t mean in a “I lost my quiver” kind of way. I mean in a “what’s up with the characters” way.

Julia and Luke meet when she comes from Texas to Boston to make a bid for a contract with the business for which Luke works. Their attraction is instantaneous; Luke tells Julia later that she made him hard upon sight, and he had to remain seated so that no one would notice.

They spend all night rocking that headboard (and boy, do they rock it), and then Julia returns home. She’s in a bit of a predicament because she’s trying to divorce her a-hole of a husband, and one small slip could mean that she loses everything. Still, though, she finds time to stoke the fires with Luke.

But the a-hole manages to upend everything, and Julia finds herself utterly and completely at her husband’s mercy.

And here is where the frustration begins to peak. If Charles is such a boor and nothing more than a big fat bully, what is Julia doing with him in the first place? That is a question never answered. Regardless of her relationship with her parents, why Charles? There is no evidence that he was ever warm and caring with her, or that he was ever less controlling. And where did her gumption come from to file for divorce? How did she get so strong so suddenly?

Perhaps we are not meant to ponder these things. Perhaps, instead, we are meant to wait with her for Luke. Oh, I’d wait for him, all right. The man has SKILLS. You definitely need that vibrator handy, girls, because Desiree Holt writes some awesome sex scenes. Yum, yum. It helps that Luke is a dirty talker.

I like dirty talkers.

So where were we? Oh, yeah. The strange discrepancies.

I must stress that the 3 star rating has NOTHING to do with the author's talent. She created a piece of work that left me thinking about my own approach to people like Julia and what I might need to change and understand in the future. My rating is on my personal feelings regarding Julia and the direction this story took along with the drag time in the story. In the synopsis you will see it said "fate was laughing at Julia....." well I don't think fate had anything to do with her story, I think her fear and weak spirit was what caused her to lose so many happy years in her life.
So many times I wanted to scream at her to wake up and go check out the things she was hearing. If rumors and threats were confirmed then find a lawyer to fight for you, at least have enough desire to rescue your children from the life she had with Charles. Julia's story was always one step forward and two steps back, even if it was just a hint of Charles memory that was enough to send her back those two steps. Luke was a dream come true, I think had I been in this situation I would have wondered if he was a bit too good to be true, but I can see her falling in love with him. What I am still left wondering is why she didn't trust him enough to help her and protect her and her children in order for them to be together. I explained Julia to a friend as an orchid, you have to be timely and precise in your treatment of her, she is easy to damage, intimidate and destroy, but she is also easy to find beauty in and to love.
Some blame Charles for tearing Julia and Luke apart, but I have to place the blame on Julia and Luke. They both could have fought for each other but they each gave up in their own ways, which made their reunion lack luster for me.

First and foremost this story brought to mind the legendary mythical phoenix. If ever two characters can be said to have risen from the ashes in triumph those two characters would have to be heroine, Julia Patterson and hero, Lucas Buchanan. I so admire both of them. They are so courageous, determined and dedicated to the ones they love. Julia amazes by constantly doing the things she has to do in order to protect her children at great personal emotional cost. Lucas amazes by his perserverence in loving Julia through all the bad times.
This was a very emotional read for me. Desiree Holt always gives the reader the best evil villains. She has truly outdone herself in this story with Julia's cold, controlling husband, Charles and his vindictive friend, Rod McGuire. I just hated them both and loved the strength of Julia's character to fight against them even though she falters along the way.
Anyone looking for a book with admirable characters, deliciously evil villains, an emotional storyline and an uplifting HEA will want to snatch up Finding Julia and start reading right away.

Luke and Julia meet at a time in Julia's life when everything is up in the air, and the instant passion claims them both. But then - disaster strikes, and what was about to start has to end, to the despair of them both. Now, fourteen years down the line, will they get their second chance at happiness?
Will Luke forgive the secrets Julia kept?
Contemporary romance, smutty fluff and angst in a great combo.
