This is a 5-book series, which I am sort reading out of order, but that's OK, because they can stand alone. I do recommend starting with The Mating at the minimum, though there are two books leading into that one (which I will get to this weekend).
Rich girl finds out she's a werewolf. No one told her. Surprise!
Rich girl flees to Vegas convinced that she is a vicious monster, meets up with a nice guy with a serious gambling problem and becomes poor. Very poor.
Evil villain is searching for rich girl so that he can get all of her money AND sell her as a circus freak. Boo!
Beta of Pack from Ontario that has a "claim" on her (there's the Finding) is searching for her as well. Naturally they are mates (it always works that way, right?)
He finds her, she hits him with a cheap lamp and runs screaming in terror. Ow! They fall in love.
Evil villain's henchmen arrive and screw everything up. Mayhem ensures. Next thing we know, we're in Chicago. So first it was hot and dry, now it's cold and windy. Really messes with packing.
Previous evil villain appears on the scene, has a serious conflict going on with her inner wolf. Sucks when that happens.
Evil villain gets rich girl, everyone comes to rescue her, the elevator breaks. Lots of steps and out of breath. No trips to gym needed for a week.
The evil villain is about to win when ....
You'll just have to read the book. You'll be glad you did.
It's definitely worth the price - it's free - I would gladly spend lots of Kindle $ on these books. So if you love werewolves, you now have absolutely no excuse not to join the world of Nicky Charles.
(BTW, I do not know the author, and was paid absolutely nothing to rave about this book. I just love to rave.)
I have to be honest. This was my least favourite of the Law of the Lycan series so far. It wasn't that I didn't like the characters, because I did. Cassie and Bryan are both great. I think the problem for me was that all of the past characters played roles too. Elsie and Kane and Mel and Ryne were all accounted for, as were Daniel and his love interest and Damien and his probable future love interest. It felt a bit like Cassie and Bryan had to share their story, and they deserved their own. Plus, with so many characters from past books present there were a lot of small recap passages that I found somewhat annoying. Charles' writing is still easy to read and enjoyable. I'm still liking the series a lot. This particular book just happens to fall at the bottom of my preference list.
The storyline of rescuing Cassie Greyson is fantastic. The werewolves and their culture and laws are well thought out and believable. The insight the author gives into the pack mentality and way of life is fascinating. The romance is a slow build and very believable. The sex scenes are not gratuitous and are extremely hot! However, if you aren't into reading them with this book you don't have to! You can quickly skim and not miss a bit of the plot. Then you will still have hundreds of pages of actual story to read! So many romance novels today are all about the sex, definitely not so here. (Although the male characters are drool worthy).
This novel also give a look at the social problem of gambling addiction and a look into the life a gambling addict. It also brings home the point that no one wants to be alone forever and we all long to find our place in life.
The best part is you can get them for free! At the end of each novel the author asks that if you feel like it to donate the cost of the book to an animal shelter or food bank. After reading all three novels I choose my local no kill shelter. I figure I got hundreds of pages of great reading and I got satisfaction of giving back, a win win.
Even if you are not a big fan of werewolves or paranormal romance I recommend you read these books. You will not be disappointed.
