Ofcourse this rips a young girl to pieces, she eventually moves on with a mutual friend Brian though Andrew is always in her heart and the back of her mind.
For the next 15 years he abuses her, physically, sexually, mentally and emotionally. Until one night he goes too far, attempting to kill her and she wakes in the hospital with an old friend by her side ready to take her in and hide her from Brian until he's caught.
Now Carrie's is face to face with her past, a past that has secrets that could hurt her more than Brian's fists ever could.
Just when she thinks her struggle is over she finds that Brian isn't the only person who wants to hurt her.
This is Carrie's story. Her fight for survival, suffering but holding on to the one man's memory she ever loved, the one thing that keeps her alive through all of this is Andrew.
Carrie's story is full of heartbreak, love, loss, forgiveness, vengeance and freedom.
I'm waiting for Andrew's side next and hopefully we will get stories for some of the other characters as well, Seth, Chris and Gray I absolutely want to know more about!
Fifteen years ago, Carrie fell in love with Andrew, they spent one glorious night together and he broke her heart. At her most vulnerable, Brian takes her away and starts to isolate her from everything and everyone. Then the abuse starts, I will say the abuse is graphic and honest (I cried for her more then once). One night Brian all but kills Carrie.
When she wakes up in the hospital, she is rescued by friends from her past. Her best childhood friend Sandy is there when she wakes up, and takes her to the family vineyard in northern California. Sandy just happens to be Andrew's sister. Now 15 years later and all of the feelings she had before are still there. Andrew and his friends are trying to protect her but there is a mystery and things that no one is telling her.
Ms. Briner's characters are strong and vulnerable at the same time. I lost a few hours sleep because once I started I had to see what was going to happen. The plot twists will slap you in the face and make you wonder who the real bad guys are and who will find true happiness.
Please notice the title is the Doms of the Enlightened, so yes there is some BDSM scattered through the book, it has vivid abuse scenes, and an ending that will make you ask what the hell and screaming for the next book.
“Please don’t push me away. I don’t think my heart can handle losing you a second time it’s always been you Carrie, it will always be you” Andrew to Carrie
Do the words above mean true?
This is Carrie’s journey to finding salvation in her life and to the ones that she holds dear to her heart. Carrie’s story is like no other. She gave up her heart 15 years ago to the one man that she held dear but this man (Andrew) left her heart broken. As we take this journey with Carrie we find that an abusive relationship is in the cards for her or is it? For 15 years Carrie kept the light in heart for Andrew. She was able to withstand and abusive relationship with Brian all the while keeping Andrew close to her heart. Taking abuse upon abuse till one day her light comes which she decides to walk away however Brian had another thing in store for her death. Her light was fading fast. Little did she know her light was about to shine brightly upon her.
Carrie’s journey to finding her salvation has so many twists and turns at every blink of an eye that you can’t put her story down. She finds that Andrew broke her heart to keep her heart intact. She understands that Andrew’s love has kept her alive all these years. She yearns for him but little does she know that Andrew was there the whole time. He thought he was keeping her safe by looking out for her but Brian had his secrets and kept Carrie from living Brian beat her, burned her, kicked her and shot her (you read that right) but her will to live was stronger than that because of “her light” (Andrew).
To the author I wish I could do this review justice but I can’t there are no words to describe this book other than AWESOME. Every journey that this couple takes to get back to one another is fabulous and heart wrenching. This amazing read is nothing short than just awesome. You have taken the written word to an unattainable plateau for this reviewer that words alone can’t be spoken. Congratulations in rendering this reviewer speechless not many can but this journey is more than that.
To the readers this book is a must read for all. You have everything you could possible want in this book. You have the wild sex, the dominant, the hotness, the mystery, the AWE FACTOR, the compassion, the whole package but most of all you have the survivor.
A great anytime read.
