Raw. Heart-breaking. realistic and honest.
This book broke my heart. It showed so honestly the hardships homosexual people go through just to exist in a world that treats them like a disease. I was witness to extreme homophobia that purely put me off as I read the book. It was difficult to see, through the book, how cruel people can be.

Will Tanner has known his sexual identity since he was a teenager. He tried to hide it, but he can no longer deny it when his best friend North calls him out on it. North & Will have been very close friends. They share everything, but their relationship is forever altered when North decides to experiment with Will. But Will's feelings for North aren't just a game to him.
Their secret and very brief affair destroyed their friendship. North's fear of his true feelings clashed with Will's total honesty and so, they broke each others' hearts.

They fall apart. They've had no actual contact for twelve years.
When North decides to push himself back into Will's life, he will realize that Will isn't as he once as. He is a man who is not afraid to admit who he is. He is a guy who doesn't fear what others think of him. He is a person who allows others to see him for what he really is and he doesn't make excuses for being who he is.
North is the exact opposite. He fears the town's gossip. He fears being labelled as gay. He doesn't want anyone to know that deep down Will is what he wants. Will's lifestyle terrifies him and so, he hides behind a totally weak relationship with a woman while giving Will total whiplash with his behavior.
Will their tremulous relationship ever evolve?
What I liked about this book is that it didn't waste itself on details about their past and North's traumatic childhood.

I am the biggest fan of the M/M genre and I loved this book! This was different than any other book in the genre that I have read thus far. In Finding North, you will personally witness a man struggling to come to terms with his sexual identity in a town that is non too quiet about their total animosity toward the gay community. Carmen Jenner sure knows how to evoke such strong emotions in the reader and she makes it impossible to not fall in love with her characters.

Will Tanner and North Underwood have been best friends since kindergarten. When they fell into bed with one another ten years ago, it changed everything. Will had always had a secret crush for his friend, but North had thought himself straight up to this point. They were inseparable, but people grow apart and hearts will break.

Ten years later and their attraction for one another is still just as strong but Will will never forget how North shattered his heart and threw all their years of friendship away. Alcohol and bad decisions lead these two down the exact same path that destroyed their friendship all those years ago. Will can't help but to fall in love with North all over again, but will things be different this time? Or will Will's life get shattered all over again?

I absolutely loved this heart wrenching emotional read and may have even shed a tear or two through the struggles these two men go through. The only problem I had was that this book alternates between past and present but the author doesn't clearly state how old the characters are. Throughout the whole book, I was confused as to when the events were happening. In one chapter the characters are in their teens and in the next they are at the bar drinking away their problems. It was just slightly confusing for me, but doesn't really take away from the bigger picture and what is going on. I really look forward to reading more from this author.

North and Will's journey is not an easy one. The two have so many obstacles trying to hold them back. The biggest being North's alcoholic/abusive father. Who has tainted his son with so much fear and shame that he can't see what's stand right in front of him. Will has been doing the same song and dance with North for 30yrs. He doesn't want to risk having his heart broken again from North. I couldn't read this book fast enough. These two characters will stay with me for a long while. Great Read!!

Finding North

3.5 stars

Gosh I love Carmen Jenner but this one was just okay for me. The characters were very well written but the depth of the story just wasn’t as much as I wanted it to be. Carmen takes us way back into Will and Norths lives when you found one you found the other. Their lives were so intertwined they were joined at the hip. Something happened between the two and all of a sudden poof .. no more Will and North. I want to know what that poof was and why it happened. I shouldn’t say we don’t know anything, we do of course but not enough of what caused the extreme reaction and led them to not speaking for years.

This is a tough story line as Will is openly honest about who he is but North is not. Will stands up to the fears of others while North is a coward. He doesn’t want anyone to know who he really is which I think played more into their demise all those years ago. I really was not a fan of North as he tormented and played with Will’s emotions. Best friends or not .. heck no. The two boys also had different parents accepting different things and especially who they allowed their children to be and what they allowed their children to show the world.

North is hiding behind sticking his “you know” in the ladies while Will is pining for him from afar. North’s relationship with his father I felt should have played a much bigger part in the storyline. His father forbidding him to acknowledge Will had to be more than it was played out to be in the story.

I wish there was more .. more depth .. more past .. more future .. just more. Not a bad read it just felt like as the topic was put out there and the importance it holds there should have been deeper story lines.
