That being said, and remember I have all three books in the series, I do have a word of caution. Many readers (like me) run through ebooks at a pace that can be faster than authors write. It is hard enough to wait for a book that is in production...counting down days, weeks, months, etc., for the next in the series to be written. The third book in this series was published in August 2011. There is no indication that the fourth book has ever been started - just a FB blurb from early 2012 when the author said she may have to go back to that series soon. After that there are no Oescienne updates. If you truly need closure (whether happy or not), this may not be the series for you. I definitely enjoyed the read, but I definitely have a hole in my heart over the series abrupt cliff hanger - especially after such a gut-wrenching set of chapters...
This would be a great book/series for a teen/young adult reader. There are all types of mystical creatures throughout the book. There are dragons, elves, dwarves, stories of lake monstes and other various creatures.
The lead female character is Jahrra. She is found in a sacred oak tree just a few hours old. A blonde haired blue eyed baby girl. Only humans can have blue eyes, but there hasn't been a human around for hundreds of years. Where did she come from, and could she be the child the prophecy speaks of? She is taken to a Nesnan family to be raised. Her adoptive parents are wonderful people who love her very much. She also has the ancient Korli dragon Hoombramantu guiding her.
This book is quite detailed in Jahrra's upbringing. How she got her start in life, up through her pre-teen years. While she may be raised to think she is an average Nesnan, she is anything but.
I can't wait to read the next book to see what will happen next. For those of you who have read the author's Otherworld Series, this is completely different. I highly recommend the book/series, and think it would be best appreciated by a younger audience.
I don't feel it was written for younger kids as some have said. If you take the time to read the prologue it weaves in a whole other element that contributes greatly to the plot.
Some people have mentioned misspellings; the author doesn't misspell words, she creates words and their spellings in a way that she feels they would be in the world she has created.
She also gives a pronunciation guide. I do agree that it would be nice if the words were just written the way they are pronounced.
Over all I love this series. There are currently 3 books available and a total of 5 books planned for the series.
I'm very excited to hear that the 4th book isn't far from release.
Quiet days unfold with the teachings of Hroombra, thousands of years old dragon, and in this first book Jahrra still doesn't know about her true identity and leads a carefree life we have the pleasure to witness.
Written from a more adult perspective than your run of the mill Y.A. Paranormal story (romance not being the main excuse of a twisted plot concocted by their authors), Book 1 of The Legend of Oescienne rings so true, so perfect, building anticipation for the rest of the story.
For young adults, teenagers, preteens and adults of all ages.
The last time I was that enthralled by legends were through the books of Mary Stewart, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Tolkien and R. J. Stewart...
