At the end of the first book i was furious & thats not the emotion i want to feel after spending hours reading a romance novel! I love drama in these books but i hate when 1. The heroine is weak (which thankfully el is not) or 2. The hero doesnt show remorse or never has to pay for his wrongs! That would be the case here! While reading the reviews for this book i noticed there was soooo many that said he redeems himself therefore convincing me to read it! Ummmm hello people just bc he didnt sleep with her dpesnt mean he didnt make HUGE unrepairable mistakes!!!!!
In fact, Lets look at that;
He left her alone ALOT, he comes home to see her dressed up to go with him to a party only to tell her she couldnt go with him & infact he ended up as the "date" of another woman, he interviews with the woman letting her be all over him & let her say on camera they were together & how pretty their babies would be & he AGREED (dont forget while el sat home in her dress watching) he did several SEX commercials with said woman, he shows up at 3am with said woman carrying her drunk while El sat home ALONE!!!!! He says the commercial & the "date" were forced bc of a contract... Um ok so u either didnt read your contract before signing it OR you did & still signed it knowing all this! Well lets move on a little to when he arrives home after doing this to el, does he appologize & feel horrible & try to make it up to her after shes been 100% supporting him, left her fam & friends to be with him so he could leave her alone all the time to do all these things?!? NOPE! He immediately cusses her for her asking about it, tells her to go home & then HAS THE NERVE to tell her she looks skinny & terrible go to people who can take care of you!!!! WHAT??????????? I was LIVID!!! All while he has done nothing for her as far as support!
So she leaves & we move into this book where the reviews say he "Redeems" himself!!!! Lets see, is he sorry? Id say no since he over & over acts like he has no clue wat he did wrong! He goes to her & acts like a child & gets mad pitches fits bc she doesnt fall at his feet at his first insincere apology! So that goes on & on for days! All while hes stalking her & sees her talk to another man & goes crazy! (Now dont forget he feels he did nothing wrong so el shouldnt be mad but el TALKS to another man & he goes nuts.. He doesnt understand my a** he just wants to not apologize) She finally agrees to think it through but for him & tells him just give her a lil space & she'll call! Hes all happy & then goes to a bar with his friends & starts talking about how exteemely tempted he is to go home with a random woman at the bar! He said he decided to just flirt instead! Oh & his excuse? Hes a guy! In fact he does alot of lil rauncy thinking & doin like this & says its bc hes a guy! Oh please wat a cop out?! Gag me!
I feel i need to say dont get me wrong he did do alot of sweet things for her & i do feel like he loves her BUT he very much takes her for granted & doesnt appreciate her or wat shes done for him near as much as he should! Everything is about him! Ok moving on to she finally takes him back & things are great but SEVERAL times wen the ither woman comes around he lets her come in his house, he answers her calls & texts! I did appreciate that he shut her down BUT IF a woman had done the things this woman had done youd THINK he wouldnt let her in the house and/or be around her AT ALL?!??
Obviously same woman set him up & had peep take pics & sent them to el & el was heartbroken again bc shed just had to deal with seeing the "proposal" commercial, him naked with her in commercial AND he REALLY had the nerve to tell el he HAD to go to ANOTHER party without her & he AGAIN let that woman take pics with him & say see u at home & other comments in front of paps ALL so he wouldnt lose one endorsement! Idc wat anyone says that minute he chose money over el!!!!
After seeing the new texts & photos of jag with this woman AGAINshe breaks up with him! Ok i saw alot of people say they got mad at el for that & so did jag! So my question is after all that i just wrote PLUS the fact that he never really was sorry bc he never really felt he did anything wrong PLUS the fact that while apologizes throughout whole book he continued to do EVERY SINGLE THING he was appologizing for in first place! He didnt change a thing, still hung out with woman, still went to party with her going along with being a couple, still did commercials! So somebody PLEASE tell me how the eff he redeemed himself?!?!
Last, author all im asking is PLEASE PLEASE humble jag he never once did he really think he'd lose her he was so cocky therefore hecdoesnt appreciate her! PLEASE give him a taste of his own medicine so he can FINALLY "GET IT"! If it goes to el begging him im DONE! ;/
In the first third of the book he is certainly upset that El is gone and does some superficial things to win her back, but he continually marginalizes his responsibility for how things spiraled so far out of control. He truly seems mystified by El's actions. No 26-year-old guy is *that* stupid! From the few glimpses we've had of Jag's jealous episodes we can imagine his reactions if El placed him in the same predicaments in which he placed her. His telling of his side of things is almost... insulting. His attitude borders on light and joking at times. His explanations again: "Hey, I'm a guy." Even after the point when he claims that he finally "gets it" he just keeps repeating his past mistakes. All in the name of his "career." He may have been bound contractually for some of his actions, but he did not have to participate in the blatant misrepresentation of the many devastating PR aspects. He did.
And her parents' response to the very public disregard for and disrespect of their daughter -- WHAT?? If my boyfriend said and did the things that Jag did ON TV my dad would have met him at the door with a shotgun. That was just... bizarre. Totally unbelievable.
With regards to a "misunderstanding" that takes place in the last third of the book: presented with the same evidence, my reactions would have been exactly the same as El's! Would she have reacted that way if Jag has always treated her and her feelings with dignity and respect? Would she have reacted as strongly if Jag had manned up and demanded that his agent treat her with dignity and respect? Would she have reacted the same if Jag had not continually humiliated and discounted her publicly? Of course not!
Please, please, please give Jag some legitimate competition in the next book. Make him feel the way El has felt for *years*. And make her a celebrity so it can be slapped in Jag's face every day -- publicly. Let her "pretend" in the name of PR. Or better yet -- make it real! Despite his claims, Jag *still* doesn't get it.
On another note, I was confused by several things Jag said and did. In DU he told El that Allessandra wasn't that bad. Throughout this entire book he called her names and disparaged her. ?? Also, he kept saying he was responsible for what happened with El, but he would whine and make excuses for it and then would get mad and pout whenever things didn't go his way. He complained about the PR, but did nothing to correct the info. In fact he just kindled the flames! His character just seemed all over the place.
I truly don't like writing bad reviews. I have the greatest respect for authors, but please -- be believable, maintain character consistency and don't just keep rehashing the same angst over and over again in subsequent books.
