The Titanium Finnex Heatering tubes are corrosion-resistant, extending the life exponentially from saltwater damage. Virtually unbreakable, especially in comparison with the standard glass aquarium, these tubes are built to last. The ultra heating titanium further provides a stable temperature environment for your aquarium lives and eliminates temperature swings that put stress on the aquarist's live stock. If you have a Controller for your aquarium temperature, this is the heater you want. DONT buy the ones with the dial on them. get this which is on whenever power is applied to it. it works great in my 180 gallong reef.

I use this in a water bath cooker, and it works beautifully. Just how I like things, plug it in and forget because it does the job as it's supposed to.
I do wish I could find this in a higher wattage, but that's only because I'm usually going from 80 degrees to 110-115 degrees. It'd just be nice to see the temp rise faster, but my temperature controller only handles up to 1000 watts anyway.

I ordered this heater for an aquaponics system I built. I control the heater with the Ranco ETC-111000. I have the control unit in an outdoor box so it's completely weatherproof. I have used other brands titanium aquarium heaters in my aquaponic systems before and either the temperature control unit went bad because they're not meant to be used outside or the seal where the cord connects to the heater went bad and gave off an electric charge to my system water killing my fish. I have been using this heater now for a few months and the cord is still in good condition and I don't have the problem with the control unit because I wired my own.

So, if you're putting together your own custom aquaponics system heater, this is a great option and I highly recommend it!

Heated a total of around 210G of water (display plus basement sump) from 71.5f (ambient temp) to 77f in an hour or less. I will probably be adding another of these as it is barely keeping up now that air conditioning is upon us and there is a 7-9f delta (difference between 77f desired temp and room temp) plus losses of heat by circulating through my basement sump (basements here tend to stick around 50-55 degrees year 'round, so for the water in the sump, that's a ~20-22f delta) and with these combined losses, temperature dips only a few tenths below 77, but is ON 90+% of the time as controlled by my Neptune Apex Jr..

Another thing to be aware of is that you MUST use either a heater controller (dedicated unit, Finnex makes an excellent one with LCD displays for set and current, which is what I had pre-Apex), or a full blown aquarium controller like the Neptune Apex. One thing of note is this thing pulls (as reported by the Apex) about 4A when fired up, which lines up with specs on the box of the heater) - you will want to put this on a RELAY outlet of your apex (the ones marked 10A, not 5A) as on my unit at least, the solid state controlled outlets would not turn OFF.

I had another companies 1000w heater that died after +/-18 months. So I decided I'd try the Finnex brand and decided to go with 2 smaller heaters in case one burnt out I'd have a secondary unit already in the system. In my head it makes sense that they might do less work as compared to 1 heater so the lifespan may be longer.... I don't know that for fact it just seems to make sense.

I have both heaters running on my Neptune Apex aquarium controller, and the combination keep my reef within +/- 1 degree of 77. So far so good, hopefully they last longer than 18 mos!

The Finnex Titanium heating tube plugs into my controller, and has been in use on a 300 gallon freshwater tank for years. The controller powers it up at 1/2 degree under the set temp, and it only takes a few minutes to raise the temp back up.

Great heater!! Just FYI you need a heat controller to use this! I didn't know that when I bought it, but just went down to petco and got a reptile heat controller, works great! It's in my 150+ gallon aquaponics setup and it heats it easily and quickly!! Maintains a perfect 74 degrees with ease!

I guess others have posted water seepage and failure after some time. That could be a disaster but I've also had the 500 watt model for two years in my reef sump with no issues. I don't see any oxidation of the metal either.

You can build your own controller box to run a heater and cooler that switches automatically for under $50. Just search for STC1000. Amazon has several different offerings and it was a fun and easy project. I only found the Fahrenheit models to support heating. The Celsius models do both. These will work with heaters and coolers up 1200 watts (10A, 120V). Now I don't need to worry about my heater and cooler running at the same time if somebody screws around with the temp setting on my separate controllers.
