He’s the town’s new minister. She’s a part-time librarian whose mishaps keep the ladies’ afternoon teas laughing about her klutziness. The couple find some old notes in a library book which has them acting as amateur detectives, and Fiona misses Charles’ company when the writer of the notes steps forward.
While the ladies of Timber set their minds on finding Charles a wife, he has ideas about Fiona, but she doesn’t see the obvious as does everyone else.
McGregor has brought us a heartwarming light romance which is a delightful read. The characters are evocative and well-balanced, and McGregor’s description of days long past give a warmth and enchantment of how life used to be.
Sharon writes historic settings very well. In this and in Autumn Dreams, she portrays 1947 and 1949 with a real feeling for the times. You do feel really transported back to a simpler time when relationships featured romance without the supercharged sexuality you might find in a present-day story. I did not detect any anachronisms. I enjoyed the nostalgia.
The message mystery was great plot twist!
Ms. McGregor pulled me into the small town of Timber immediately and the characters came to life. Her writing style gave the book a light, sweet, romantic flair that perfectly suited the story and kept me turning the pages. I recommend it for all who enjoy sweet romance.
The story is heart-warning and captures the time period of 1947-1949 with precision and interest. I loved the way the characters were skilfully brought to life.
I enjoy this author’s stories and recommend them for readers who like clean and sweet bite-size romances for a vicarious adventure in historical Canada.
